Whispers of Wood and Oleksiak as main targets now

If two depth guys scraped up from the bottom of the bargain bin are Dubas’s “main targets”, that’d be pretty disappointing.

Though a depth guy is all we probably need on defense. An NHL body to give us extra insurance against having to insert Martin Marincin into an NHL playoff game in case of injuries, and/or if Sandin & Liljegren prove not to be ready.

Wood is a hard worker but has some poor underlying numbers from quick glance. I dont get the desire especially with term left

Some contradiction here. If Fred is coming back I dont see them kicking tires on names like Kuemper Raanta or Ullmark

If they are indeed looking at these guys either Fred goes the other way or on retroactive LTIR on deadline day
they're all talking out of their asses. dunno who coined the term talking heads but it should be talking asses.

I think Wood is basically another Mikheyev. Oleksiak is probably another Bogosian.

They should aim higher, but I think they should use that $2.5 mill in cap space on the best they can get.

I don't want Barabanov/Marincin as the 13th forward 7th dman. When healthy those guys are useless to the team. And even with injuries they may be useless if Robertson/Sandin are ready, but no point in leaving cap space on the table.

Would be nice if Mikheyev could find that extra 1/2 gear where he starts scoring again, he could then be relied upon as top-six insurance. That checking line is fine, but if they could find the score-sheet with more regularity it would be a boon for the play-offs.

Also starting to wonder if having our stars practicing/playing the PK is at least a small reason that our PP has been so ineffective. I won't call it "bad", because they are doing well at setting up in the zone - they just cannot find the back of the net.

I disagree. an addition at any position, as long as it's a useful one, would improve our chances.

1A/1B goalie
scoring LW for the Tavares line
2 way bottom 6 forward(ideally C)
upgrade on Dermott or Bogosian

Even the #4 item on the list would help, because an injury to any of our solid top 4 would be big big trouble.

depth is all that's needed on defense and in net.....and not really all that urgently.

but at forward we really should an a legit top 6 guy.

If Hall only costs a 2nd and they retain, there’s no excuse not to add him. Not getting him would be totally idiotic.

Dermott-Bogosian
Sandin-Liljegren

is arguably as good as any team's non-top-4 dmen.

Almost feels like dubas is gonna go dumpster diving and try to grab a guy for pennies on the dollar. But then again I'm probably trusting the TMZ guys a bit too much.

I mean you say this every season for the last 20 years...but that aside, like I said, I don't see a palatable candidate to replace any of our top 4 in that group so I'm not sure what your point is.

the two kids aren't realistically going to play, for starters. they're organizational depth sure, but in the context of the immediate future, they're not making a major impact at the NHL level to help us.

finally, as you can see I listed a depth dman last on the priority list, for as much cap room reasons as it is that as a 6 pack it's finally good enough to compete with the best teams...provided they stay healthy. which, thankfully, they have for the most part.

I wonder how much the Tampa went for Coleman/Goodrow and won a cup plays into the teams want Laughton/Wood both in the minds of GM's but mostly the media

Dermott has already filled in well in the top 4 multiple times.

And the two kids are clearly ready to contribute.

I dont pay attention to NJ much but Gusev contract is being terminated... any interest in him for the remainder of the year

From what I have heard the Sabres want a 1st plus prospect for Hall; a lot of teams waiting for that price to go down. Also heard Hall does not want to do 7 day quarantine

Keefe taking advantage of the willy move.

Gotta say Mikky finally looked good up on a scoring line last game. He was a disaster early in the year on the Tavares line, but maybe he can turn that around. Tavares certainly had more golden chances in this game than he has in a while, and we know he's long been able to produce with nothing but grinders on his line.

that bottom 6 looks fugly though.
