There have been 8 ~PPG efforts out of a defender since the first lockout, and a much larger handful of .8-.85+ PPG efforts.

For Karlsson to perenially be a top 3 scoring defender, he'll have to regularly be ~PPG. Maybe not every season, but a lot of seasons.

Cowen put up 5gls/17pts as a 20 year old rookie. He's easily capable of having a 25pt season while practicing defense first. That alone is worth $3m.
