The New Division

It almost hurts to see Johnny have to lower himself to working with this shitty trolling material.

Almost.

We are 5 points away from being in 9th with a quarter of season left...why is everyone assuming we made the playoffs???

I don't know why everyone acts like 5 points isn't a lot at this time of year. We know how hard it is to make up points down the stretch because we've been on the other side before.

Even 8-6-4 at this point would put us at 94 points. You just have to not implode.

Sens would have to go 12-4-3 just to hit 92 and even then they'd only have a 75% chance of making it.

Because all we have to do is lose the first three games out west against very tuff competition and 5 points can be 2 points and teams below also have games in hand.

I wouldn't call them locks either.

Trying to say 3-12 seeds are truly up for grabs with I believe 6 points between everyone. No one should be a lock yet outside of pens and bruins

The leafs would have to be a sub-500 team the rest of the way to even have a chance of missing the playoffs.

They would have to be passed by six different teams to miss the playoffs.

The leafs ar 6-2-2 in their last 10 (115pt pace).

The leafs are 13-4-3 in their last 20 (119pt pace).

The leafs are 17-8-5 in their last 30 (107pt pace).

The leafs are 34-23-8 on the season (96pt pace).

The leafs are 60-40-13 over the last 2 seasons (97pt pace).

The leafs would suddenly have to turn into an 80pt pace team over the last 17gms to miss, and even then that might not be bad enough to miss.

And the sked isn't particularly tough either:

STL 1
ANA 1
PIT 0
CHI 0
BOS 1

SJS 1

LAK 1

TOR 0

The Leafs are in a good spot to make it right now no question, but that's all. The way this team plays we could as easily tank this road trip as ace it, even when the Leafs win it's rarely convincingly. Last night being a prime example.

I really don't think the sens are going to make it though. they're just a bad team.

My biggest concern with the Leafs is this lingering hangover from the shock of the Boston series. I never gave that line of thinking any credit until seeing how many times they've choked on their leads this season. To their credit, they've also been very good and pulling out of these little gut checks and winning. I dunno if it's Bernier (he does have a tendency to drift off in situations where risk is low), confidence fragility or both, but it is concerning.

I think its mental at this point. They've given up so many leads in the third when they have a one goal lead they clam up a bit and make mistakes at points. But the second they give up the lead the switch flips and they are back to their game and end up winning most of those games anyway.

While allowing 22 game tying goals in the 3rd period.

Truly a mind boggling team.

Yeah, it's pretty absurd. As long as the results are there I won't be too concerned, but it would be really nice to reverse that particular trend.

I do think that's the next step in this team's development though, learning how to put team's away and finish/close games. Not so dissimilar from the Raptors this season.
