The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I also think mcdavid liked playing for him...and realized then that the goalies are the problem...and until they fix that, you ain't winning shit

So it's a bunch of (likely imperfect) metrics that all say McKenna is beyond fucking elite vs many people's eyeballs that say he is a couple steps below Bedard, Celebrini, etc.

I'll put my money on the beautiful data!!!

Smart guy I'm sure, but would have liked to see more cap shenanigans from the leafs over the years. Don't think I saw any evidence that he had any superpowers.

We can't really have a front office enema if we keep everyone, right?

I'm sure he's fine, but the CBA isn't exactly new anymore so his original competitive advantage of being the guy who wrote it has expired years ago. We've also never really crushed on contract negotiation, which was his other major scope.

I think when a new top dog comes in, he should like and be comfortable with everyone under him, and ideally select his staff without having any carryovers from the last regime.

Here, though, my spidey sense is sort of telling me that Pridham may have had his eye on the GM job and felt he served his time and was ready for the promotion, and stood back to see the team pick a guy who had been out of the NHL for years and who left in some disgrace, and realized that if his many years of faithful service resulted in him losing in this situation to an outsider, that he had no real future in the organization.

I'm sure Chayka has many detractors and doubters even here in the organization, so if he didn't warm up to him immediately, that might have been another reason to see the writing on the wall.

Yeah, this is a good take. If he wanted the job and didn't get it now, he's never getting it.

The Leafs are finally doing this properly. I guess ideally they’d have a real President, but it kind of feels like Mats is being groomed for it so we’ll see how that goes.

Main thing here is stop carrying over the trash and doing everything ass backwards. Not saying Pridham specifically is trash, he’s obviously very competent, but let the guy running the show pick his people.

Also, given how badly Shanny fucked this team, his people should be first on the block.
