The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

i don’t want other teams to hire nerds. Where’s the edge in that?
The whole GMing game is about preying on the dummies in the club. Nerd or no nerd, it’s the smart finding the dumb that gets you where you need to go. You can’t rip off a smart GM. Either it’ll be a draw or some uncontrollable variable like injury will declare the ultimate winner of the deal. But anything is possible against the dumb. Anything.

Sure but dumb prey will be missed. You’ll see

I can tell you, I already miss Trey
By the way, your guy can’t be all that smart if the rumors are true.

If Tre was stupid enough to have been talking trade for Knies, your guy should’ve been able to fleece him if he’s good. A smart GM just needs the opening. He couldn’t close. Thank the lord.

exactly why I want some team to hire Trey
makes it easier on Hughes

I thought it was more of a deadline snafu on your end. I don’t think Hughes should’ve mentioned that he came really close to something big, but the fact that he did suggest that it wasn’t his fault…. otherwise he’d be admitting to a version of “I had something but I forgot how to use the fax machine properly”

Not sure I buy that. I think if Tre was in conversation about Knies, you should’ve been able to offer up quantity (a few guys who don’t amount to anything close to one Knies), or toss out a couple of decent prospects who the jury is still out on, or both, and made it happen.

The only thing I’ll give you is that Bundy was a massively risk averse chicken shit, so even if he thought the deal was great, he might’ve been too scared to pull the trigger. But I still hold your guy partially to blame - if he was on the edge of doing it, you find a way to tip him over.

i think a lot of deals come close to fruition -- it's the nature of the beast

the odd thing was that it was mentioned...so it was probably a technical issue

I think mentioning it was a mistake on Hughes part. He will shut up next time.

All I’m saying is your guy has to be able to take candy from a baby.

And if he can’t, then yeah, he shouldn’t be talking about it.
