The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Chayka on what he meant by "optionality and flexibility": "Cap space... roster flexibility with how the the profile of Emil lines up with some of the other players that we are looking to add.... the draft capital can be used or used to acquire other players... it sets us up for future moves"

Nah, I think Philly wanted Woll and Woll only. Stolarz is probably not much of a wanted commodity IMO and would get quite a bit less in a trade. Though I think he's the better goalie when healthy. For me, I was more open to trading Woll because I figured he'd get a package like this (a 2nd rounder or two 3rd rounders.. or a 3rd and a nerdie d that fell out of favor, etc).
Yeah, if I like Woll a lot better than I have to assume Philly did too.

It'll be interesting to see how Stolarz's story plays out from here. He's just starting the four year deal now, is getting up there in age, and almost certainly going to be hurt for a while at some point this season. He's definitely not playing out that contract, maybe not even playing out the year, so I'm very intrigued to see what happens with him.

Carlo is for sure next out the door now that there's a new D and Danford knocking and we haven't even got to July 1. I think he's gone before the draft.

I think Maccelli is toast too. They're not going to sign that guy.

I would hope they're negotiating with Robertson for a cheap multi-year deal.

Woll is a 28yr goalie who over the last 3yrs played 106gms (102 starts) with a .904sv%, best year is 42gms with a .909, worst year is 39gms with an .898. In his 3 playoffs years, he's played 14gms (10 starts) with a .906sv%. In his one series he was the fulltime starter, he played 7gms with an .886.

His lack of fulltime duty has been due to both injuries and inconsistency. He's a decent goalie but I don't think we have to worry about him becoming some sort of stud goalie.
He is 28? Holy shit
Time flies

Good on camera and has a straightforward answer for every question - lotta confidence in delivery; pivots from topic to topic without snubbing the inquirer - gives them at least the beat of 1 before replying; still keeping cards close to the chest - truths don't need to include actual plans. Fuckin'  loved the reply about Domi's status. 🤣 Also love that this guy is only 36 years old. Lmao. . . 😊

I thought the prevailing view was that they hadn't even talked to Woodcroft?

I love Roy the player and the guy, but I really don't want an iconic Hab coaching the Leafs. Ever.

Eakins is lame.

I don't love any of these options, but I guess Woodcroft or Pavelski, and if he's saying all the right things, I'd maybe lean Pavelski.

So this is what i have at the moment, with us signing all our RFA to the AFP projected contracts:

So $16.8m in capspace plus the caphit of whichever players here you're moving out to make room for the additions. All of Rielly 7.5, Carlo 3.5, Maccelli 3.2, Robertson 3.1 seem to be plausible candidates to move out, and of course dropping the league min guys at the bottom for upgrades is easy.

A Domi LTIR takes this up to $20.5m in capspace with one forward spot left empty.

We're gonna find out real fast if Chayka's got skillz. He has so much flexibility this summer and I can't imagine they're not a cap team. So let's see how creative he gets.
There are other teams with a ton of space too, Seattle, Columbus and San Jose to name three, and i can see the first two being stupid and desperate while the Sharks are considered a ground floor sunshine spot for guys to go to
