The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

We know Chicago loves Knies and by all accounts, Reid and Carels may be available at 4 (apparently SJ may be going for Stenberg and VAN Malholtra). I'm intrigued by this for sure, but it's gotta be more than just the 4 slot. A mystery box D is not more valuable than Knies. Plus it makes them worse this year, which is a big no-no.

mmm if i'm gm i'm seriously considering an offer of a top-5 pick for him tbh.

No thanks. Aren’t we trying to win now?

Why are we trading one of our best forwards—who is also only 23– for a pick that might turn into a good defenseman for us several years down the line?

It's pretty fun watching the meltdown on some who say the Leafs shouldn't trade Knies and are dumb for even entertaining it. And then others rage that the Leafs aren't serious about trading Knies because they are asking for a young #1D or C in return and that isn't reasonable.

Yeah they probably aren't serious about trading Knies. That's a good thing. This isn't Brad anymore. But that doesn't mean you shut down all conversation surrounding the player. This is probably their one, single, best opportunity to trade him (pre-draft, with many teams, including the Leafs, having lots and lots of cap space) so let's hear the offers. If nothing comes from it, we can probably dial the Knies speculation down for the foreseeable future and move on.

Honestly, the shit from Dreger & Seravalli is hilarious. They’re acting like it’s legitimately outrageous the Leafs won’t just trade Knies for whatever happens to be the best offer on the table for him right now.

There’s a lot of GM’s that are upset Treliving got fired that are using these guys as their hand puppets.

Tbh from the little Chayka has revealed, he seemed to be disgusted with the leafs dcorps and probably wants to turn almost all of it over if he can. Will be interesting to see if he can.

This is a gm that made a historic number of trades during his time in arizona. He's aggressive as shit. No surprise that he'll be busy.

They should be trying to win for the foreseeable future.

This is a great draft to get your top pair dman.

I do get the distinct impression that he is dying to put his stamp on the team before opening night, and wants his own guys out there. I'm just worried that he'd make some bad moves just for the sake of ego and claiming ownership of a guy that he brought in rather than succeed with a guy who was already here.

I wonder if Cowan, Robertson, Avs 1st could be enough to land a top 5 pick?

Or, although I love Rielly, if there's some sort of trade centered on him and Robertson and the Avs 1st, that would be a great way to land the 1D at 18 years old and cost controlled.
