The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I mean the only real roadblock to the leafs acquiring Werenski is that he probably doesn't want to play in Canada. And that's enough to be bearish on the possibility probably.

But let's not pretend the Leafs can't put together an extremely competitive offer for him.

Yeah, that might very well be the case. Certainly trending that way.

If he’s actually asking out, whatever SuperFriends team ends up trading for him won’t pay an absolutely insane amount. A high price but doable.

And sure, it’s probably one of the usual suspects.

Whatever I'll say will get a "no chance, you're delusional" response. But beyond Jason Robertson, I'm not sure many guys could put forth a player as attractive as Knies as the centerpiece. A 23 year old power forward with many years of control on a nice contract for a guy leaving in 2 years is tidy work for columbus.

You can toss whatever combination of Cowan, Danford, Avs 1st, 2nd rounders, etc etc you want on top of Knies. I'm not in the business of pretending that this wouldn't be one of the better offers that they'd receive. But Werenski will have like 6 American teams on his list and if he's traded, he'll go for less than that.

McTavish, McQueen, 2 Firsts.

Knies + Danford + 2027 1st (Col) + 2026 2nd (Buff) + 2027 2nd (CBJ)

A lot quantity, and sometimes quantity can equal quality but in this case hard pass. Werenski is one of the best dmen in the game, so I’m gonna need more than just hopium (and Knies)

They can get real players tho. Some teams have that — ie a lesser D than Werenski (but still premium) and some of the stuff you have above

Leafs are missing a d-man they could trade

he’s gonna give a short list but it’s really going to effectively be one team and they won’t give up a slightly lesser dmen bc why should they
