The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Assuming good news tonight and 72 is on the team.

Assuming 88, 34, 72, Rad (unsure #)…

I kinda rather 91 as the net front guy vs 23 to start.

Is 34 the bumper guy? Rad, 88 and 72 of their offsides with 91/23 at the net?

Marchment-Matthews-Mckenna
Knies-Tavares-Nylander
Maccelli/Robertson-Jenner-Cowan
Lorentz-Groulx-Joshua

Could use a dude or two that shoots right tho

McCabe-Raddysh
Rielly -Tanev
Andrae - OEL

It's a playoff team for sure. 3c gotta be top priority right now. While also trying to improve the dcorps, but that is less mandatory than 3c right now

Im fascinated to see if anyone is interested in getting the Ruck twins, and how high they would need to do so.

Ive seen one mocked as high as top 15 ( Button) but ive seen whichever the worse one is as a 4th rounder.

They seem to be polarizing.

Those guys are slow. And Jenner is broken and old.

Cmon let’s play faster.

Let’s just make a general rule—no more shitty, old, slow, broken-down 3rd/4th line leaderbeans from Columbus, please. Even if Jenner has his own smelly old Leafs hat he can dig out of a mouldy box in his basement, let’s just take a pass.

And Marchment strikes me as a guy that’s going to get massively overpaid, and then his body’s going to fall apart 10 minutes later.

Seems crazy. Both their production is legit 1st round grade, right up there with the best players from the WHL in recent years like Jarvis/Benson/kindel etc.

They aren't even small or slow.

Its just anti-twin bias.

The "bad" one also has some of the most ridiculous stats. Only McKenna put up more assists/game than him at 17 in 30 years, and Crosby was the last 17 year old with more than 85 assists.

I think Koblar is similar to Minten in that he is very smart, and plays a pro style game already.

It really depends on if they add a legit top 9 C. Because if not I don't see Groulx or Quillan playing 3C minutes, but if they do they probably don't keep Koblar to play 10 mins a game and PK.

Dom needs to tinker his model to fully measure "rare archetype"
Even ignoring that, as he shows, expecting at minimum the 4th overall pick is entirely reasonable and basically identical to his true value. Which is what my highly contested point was a few days ago! And his data backs it up.

And in a draft with arguable upside at the 4 slot and in a market that is juiced for roster players in a league where everyone is trying to win, it's perfectly reasonable to expect or want more than just that coming back.

I went by historical trends --- has anyone ever traded a top 5 pick for a 28 goal winger?

Maybe Knies is the exception that proves the rule -- boasting favourables in terms of physical archetype and contract

But how different was the Habs offer vs #4?
2 late first + Zharovsky (equivalent to a top 12 pick in this years draft according to Wheeler ) + a prospect thrown in to save you the effort of fishing out that hand drawn draft pick calculator.
