I am not huge on Hayton but come on, it's just a way better bet. He's just way way better under the hood than Sissons. And younger. And not much more expensive.

And I'm not particularly a fan of justifying not getting better players by saying "other teams don't have better players on their third line." Are the leafs just being charitable to those other teams by not trying to be better than them?

He’d cost a second and become a ufa after next year.

I mean, even the Sharks did better. They're the only ones who came close to spending what we spent. When you're blasting $20M at UFAs, you should be getting better value than the teams that spent $5M or less, or the ones spending less than $1M. Just crazy.

This chart also tells me that top-to-bottom, the free agents signed so far simply haven't moved the needle much for any team.

Free agents rarely do. Typically not wise to spend much on July 1st unless you're big game hunting.

I wish we could have found some people with a set of hands that would do similar things, but I'm not upset that we replaced some soft cardio merchants with a few guys who sleep with their teeth in a glass of water on the night table.
