The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Anyways here’s hoping the new guys up top hold themselves accountable and don’t let the idiot media blame the players for everything.

It’s been a hallmark of this team for 20 years now.

Would like to see us aim for more of a 2c than a 3c regardless. Partially because fuck grinder hockey and partially as JT Insurance.

If Tavares is still better than that dude, fantastic.

I know there are probably younger & better options with less term, but still a bummer that Calgary finally traded Kadri right before we turfed that franchise's arch-nemesis.

i don't see tavares slowing much offensively tbh. Especially if we can keep giving him easier and easier usage.

Would rather target a C that we can matchup with top lines defensively and still produce at a decent level too.

So over $15m in capspace if we run a full roster without adding anyone.

If you want to add something to this lineup, you have to subtract the caphits of whichever guy you're replacing, so there's actually more capsapce than that.

We would free up an additional $10+m by ditching Domi, Joshua, and Carlo, and beat around $25m in capsapce with 3 spots to fill.

So Carlo gets extended with a raise?

Yeah, I've kind of given up on expecting him to suddenly decline offensively.

He just seems to be chugging along as a steady 30+/70+ guy similar to how Mats did when he was in his 30's.

even though Matthews Nylander are older and Tavares is just old, there's actually a legit chance that with the injections of young McKenna, Knies, and Cowan, that this might be the best top-6 of the Matthews era.

so really the 2028 1st is the only pick we're "missing" going forward.

Over the next 3 years we have:

2 1sts

6 2nds/3rds

6 4ths/5ths

6 6ths/7ths

and then of course we have all our picks after that.

all chayka has to do is steal a 1st for one of the guys we don't actually want (like Carlo) and we're back to 100% full.

Best to compete the next 2 years minimum without our firsts. Some great trade targets, I would stay away from Raddysh.

Tre: knies and Cowan for colorados 28 first top 25 protected, reverts to 2029 second who says no

If Edmonton really wanted to be stupid, Stolarz/Carlo/Maccelli for Bouchard.

If they aren't that stupid, then Stolarz/Carlo/Maccelli for Hyman and 2028 unprotected 1st.

Bouch is part of the core 3 there so I doubt they move him, especially with McDavid likely leaving soon

Leafs were able to shed treliving, got a 2nd in the Laughton trade, finished in the bottom 5 after being like 5 points out of the playoffs in February, hired one of the most obvious data centric GMs in hockey, won the lottery and got Gavin McKenna. All in what, 2 months?

This might be the most successful 2 months for the leafs in my lifetime. Everything has been positive and full of hope.
