The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Mitch, you want to know what would have helped you with your relationship with the Toronto fan base? Waving your no trade clause when you knew you had no intention of staying with the Leafs.
That right there is the biggest fucking wart in this entire storyline.
You decided to burn bridges Mitch.. you have ZERO right to cry about it now.

dont hand players full no move clauses

dont hand players full no move clauses

The maddening thing about Mitch's NMC was that they didn't even get a discount on AAV or more term. Combine that with a management team too fucking frozen to do anything and it's a recipe for disaster.

I've been over bitchie Mitchie for quite a while - super looking forward to directing positives in this kid's direction. He kinda makes that easy to do, for now, bc he comes already packaged in some positives: talent (duh), insanely strong work ethic, smarts that include tucking intelligent social coaching notes into his pockets, and an ability to laugh at himself a little bit. All this at 19. Fingers crossed.

Regime had ample time to move him before his no move kicked in. They had to know he was gone , that's all on bad management.
Contract is similar to 34 , not enough term for the AAV .
Got to get ahead ahead of the curve , can't expect players to play nice when forced to waive trade clause too late in the game.

Last playoffs combos(24-25)

Knies --- Matthews --- Marner
Holmberg/Patches --- Tavares --- Nylander
Patches/Holmberg/Robby --- Domi --- McMann
Lorentz --- Laughton --- Jarnkrok

McCabe --- Tanev
Rielly --- Carlo
Benoit --- OEL

Though that 4th line played much more than the 3rd line did.

Potential New Combos

Knies --- Matthews --- McKenna
Cowan --- Tavares --- Nylander
Joshua --- Paul --- Roslovic
Lorentz/Duhaime --- Sisssons --- Blueger

McCabe --- Tanev
Rielly --- Raddysh
Andrae --- OEL

But i can't shake the feeling that Sissons is gonna be used like Hiller used Danault in LA, even though Sissons isn't that level of player. More of a gritty version of Kampf. The big question is whether they view Paul as a center or a winger. Though whether it's Paul or Blueger at C on one of the bottom lines that should still be more trustworthy than sending Domi out at C.

I still can't quite believe we've made such a radical change on defense from skill-less size to skilled puckmoving. I'm still worried abot the other shoe dropping - Mo dumped and replaced by a plug.

Wonder what’s going to happen with Alex. Still hasn’t signed anywhere on either an AHL or NHL deal.

Have to assume that the Leafs let him hunt for a NHL deal and if he comes up dry he's welcome on the Marlies as long as Willy is here, which is hopefully for life.

I keep seeing socials talk about Leafs interest in EK, so I looked at Pittsburgh's situation.

Holy shit. Crosby, Malkin, Letang all turning 40. First two have just this season, while Letang has two years left. EK is done after this season. And who is the next guard over there? Dubie basically has nothing there after a few years, just running back the old guys, likely at their insistence, but still, just nothing behind them. They have to all agree to get dealt by the deadline this year, don't they? When do they stop running it back?

And what does a good offer for EK half retained at the deadline look like?

It would be nice if Tanev would let us know how many games he plans to miss this year.
