The Official Fire Sheldon Keefe Thread

The lineup the data is calling for:

Bertuzzi-Matthews-Nylander: Dominant all purpose first line
Robertson-Domi-Marner: Somewhat sheltered offensive focused second line
Knies-Tavares-Jarnkrok: All purpose 3rd line
Steeves-Holmberg-McMann: All purpose 4th line

McCabe-Lilly: Matchup pair
Rielly-Timmins: Sheltered play drivers
Benoit-Brodie: Secondary matchup pair
i like stacking the top line personally and my top line doesn't have Bert on it
Nylander-Matthews-Marner
Robertson-Tavares-Jarnkrok
Knies-Domi-Bertuzzi

I don't think we're getting nearly enough contribution from the rest of the lineup to stack personally. But I'm just following the data really.

- Bertuzzi's territorial impacts have been great this year, even though his counting stats haven't been. A lot of that is probably his forechecking presence.

- Tavares has done nothing at 5v5 this season to deserve a slot on an offensive line ahead of Domi, and if you want a more traditional 3rd line, Tavares is the pretty obvious choice to centre it if you ignore the name on the back of the jersey and the paycheck. He's had good defensive impacts this season, he's already trusted with defensive zone faceoffs, and traditionally plays well with checking forwards on his line. Basically, stop hamstringing your offensively skilled wingers by trying to get them to create with Tavares. This isn't even a "mindz hates Tavares thing" it's just a straight up and down meritocracy when the team fucking needs it thing.

5v5:

Domi: 540 minutes, 21 points, most common linemates: Jarnkrok & Robertson (32%), Kampf & Knies (9%), Holmberg & Jarnkrok (6%)
Tavares: 678 minutes, 17 points, most common linemates: Nylander & Bertuzzi (45%), Marner & Bertuzzi (17%)

Domi has out produced him while playing with significantly lesser linemates. I'm just suggesting that we lean into that. Domi is a better 5v5 producer, give him linemates to produce with. Tavares is a better 5v5 suppressor, give him linemates to suppress with.

What are Domi's giveaway stats? Feels like I wouldn't want to trust him more, but the eyes, they can be lying pieces of.. I'm told

2.55 per 60 minutes. Tavares is 2.05

So half of a giveaway per 60 minutes of 5v5 ice, or put another way 1 additional giveaway every 10 games or so.

yeah i don't really agree with those lines mindz sorry.

That's cool, it may not work. But it may work. We know that what we're doing also doesn't work. I'm fine with trying shit that ends up not working as long as there is a willingness to continue trying shit that may work.

There is no such willingness behind our bench.

Take out Tavares' totally awful and unlucky 9 games and then what does it look like?

Yeah, no. We're not playing this game. He's been a mediocre producer at 5v5 for a few years now, I'm not slicing and dicing his ongoing decline into small chunks to pull out the handful of games he's back to his old mediocre 5v5 "self" in.

If a change was gonna be made it was during the all star break

Said all along after we host. Tre seems like a pussy though to pull the trigger. Not cold hearted enough and gonna make Keefe wait too long that it could impact the teams chance to bounce back/needed time for new coach to come in

teams who are floundering and need a boost pre playoffs fire coaches after the ASG.
