Some NFL News and Notes-

-Safety Bob Sanders, Defensive Player of the year last year will be out 6 weeks. If you all remember a couple years ago when Sanders was out that defense was a turnstyle. As soon as he came back, that defense played lights out good football.. This is bad news for the Colts.

-Rumors are rampant Lane Kiffin will be fired next week if the Raiders don't perform well in their next game.

-Oft-injured TE Jeremy Shockey will be out 3 to 4 weeks. The Saints already have one of their top receivers out. Anyone betting on the Saints (in points bets) take heed.

-NY Giants wideout Plaxico Burress will be suspended for 2 weeks because of "insubordination" for missing practices and not answering calls to explain his absence.

-Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin announced during his Tuesday press conference that RB Willie Parker (sprained knee), NT Casey Hampton (groin) and DE Brett Keisel (calf) will be out for Monday night’s game against the Ravens.

-Rumors are swirling that WR Torry Holt will be traded. Makes sense for a bad team who are on the cusp of a rebuild to trade the old wideout to a contending team in need of some WR depth.

-Cedric Benson has been cleared of all charges. The grand jury found that there was no probable cause.. This might open the door for a return for the often troubled running back.

-Patriots receiver Troy Brown retires

-Rams QB Marc Bulger has been benched in favor of Trent Green .

-Six former NFL players will donate their brains to science. Six former players that have suffered from concussions during their playing days will donate their brains to concussion study when they die.

-Steve Young will have his number retired as per a 49ers spokesman.

-Bengals sign former 1st round pick CB Jamar Fletcher.

-Rumors are swirling that All-Pro Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzales wants to be traded to a contender before he retires.. There is speculation that he wants to retire after this season to spend more time with his family.

-Eagles fans breathed a sigh of relief after an MRI revealed no ligament damage. All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook is day-to-day with a strained ankle, an encouraging sign for a Philadelphia Eagles team that can't afford to lose its top offensive player. An MRI revealed no damaged ligaments, coach Andy Reid said..

-Browns head coach Romeo Crennel has hinted that he is starting to consider starting Brady Quinn.. "We will definitely try to get the other guy [Quinn] ready and ready to go," Crennel said. "We'll see how it progresses from there. [It means] probably a few more reps in practice right now."

Why are the "Jests" wearing those putrid looking uniforms again ?

And the Minny-Tennessee game should be a great watch in the trenches. Both teams have very good O-lines and D-lines.

Gaither the left tackle for the Ravens is ridiculously talented.

He just made the Steelers defense look like pylons on that last field goal drive just now (to make it 6-3). Throwing defenders around like rag dolls and knocking Steeler defenders on their ass time and time again , literally.

I was bitching and moaning to pick this guy up in the supplemental draft last year before the season started. I was on the Miami board screaming to get this guy. and he could have been had for a measly 5th round pick in the supplemental.

Unbelieveable.. Look at him now. He's the biggest player on the field, and he has the feet of a ballerina out there. He's making opposing defenders look absolutely silly trying to go up against him.

I counted 5 plays where he knocked steeler defenders on their butt on that drive alone, and he did it with one arm. It's really comical when you see the Pitt defenders just fall off this guy like gnats.

EDIT - and I am shocked Flacco is playing this well. I didn't think he'd be ready to start this quickly, let alone play well.

so the big news today..

-linehan fired, replaced by haslett and bulger has been reinserted as the starter for st louis.

-the long-awaited firing of kiffin finally came to fruition, no replacement has yet been named.

-now cleared of all charges, the bengals have signed cedric benson (no surprise there, they love their distractions).

-ricky williams still craves the weed! http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_y...B?slug=ap-dolphins-williams&prov=ap&type=lgns

Chargers - Fish tied after 1 quarter.

Nice physical game thus far... Miami taking it to the chargers physically more often than not.

Dolphins 17 Chargers 3

Miami is making San Diego look like a bunch of girls out there.. Totally dominating the game much like they dominated the Patriots in the last game. San Diego just can;t stop Ronnie Brown and wildcat.. And when they are not in the wildcat formation, they are beating the chargers to the punch at every turn,

Time of possession heavily favored to Miami.. Miami outgaining the chargers 210 total yards to 66 total.. And physically making the Chargers look absolutely silly.

I told ya these boys are for real. This is absolutely nothing like the Miami team last year.

EDIT -- I haven't seen Miami totally manhandle two good teams like this two games in a row in almost a decade. I mean, Miami is making San Diego's offensive and defensive lines look like Division 2 college lines in comparison.

I'm working right now so I can't watch the game, but I'd expect a close finish.

LN, on a scale of 1-10, 1 being 'low' and 10 being 'unhealthy', how would you rate your passion for the Miami Dolphins?

Here's a little update for ya factinista.

Total first downs with 6 mins left in the 3rd quarter-

Miami- 17
San Diego- 4

EDIT - Miami just missed a field goal and could have went up by 3 scores.. What worries me is San Diego has shown the ability to score a lot of points late in games this year, namely the Oakland and Denver games. So that's worrisome.

You're making me feel better and better about our win over you guys........specially that we were able to go down there, and do it, in that heat.

Son of a bitch ! As soon as I say that SD scores a TD drive after the missed field goa,l and Miami fumbles the ball on the next possession (the rookie Davone Bess)..

SD with the ball on Miami's 25..

EDIT, Rivers sacked at Miami's 34 for a 9 yard loss.

This game has picked up a notch bigtime. SD has the momentum though,

Well, Miami has totally dominated the physical aspect of the game against the two teams in the AFC championship game last year.. In back to back games.

The score today was not indicative how Miami totally handed it to San Diego's offensive and defensive lines.

Some numbers-

- First downs were 23-10 in favor of Miami

- Miami holds Tomlinson to just 35 yards rushing.

- Miami holds Rivers to under 160 yards passing

- Pennington was 22/29 and 228 yards (compared to Rivers who was 13/28 and 159 yards)

- Miami rushed for 167 yards

- Time of possession -- Miami almost 37 minutes to San Diego's 23.

Basically, the Dolphins looked like the team who was in the AFC championship game last year and the Chargers looked like the 1-15 team... Gotta hand it to Parcells who got some young studs on the defensive and offensive lines. Merling, Starks, Langford the news guys on the D-line, and of course Long, Smiley and the guys up front on the O-line.. Pushing San Diego around all day. Beautiful to watch.

You're ridiculous.

How so ? I am talking about an older Tomlinson version with a lot of wear and tear... Talking about "today".

BTW, Ronnie Brown over the course of the first 7 games of last season before his injury, led the NFL in total yards from scrimmage at 991 yards. Brown was on his way to having a pro bowl season, quite easily.

And Brown had a much higher yards per carry average than Tomlinson did.. Brown had a 5.1 yards per carry average behind a bad offensive line last year.

BTW, both Bill Belichick and Bill Cowher said recently that Ronnie Brown can easily be the most productive back in the NFL if he just stays healthy.. talent isn't an issue

Tomlinson has obviously had a slow start and was pretty bad today. I'd wait a few more weeks before we make claims like that though.

And you're just being ridiculous in general. You beat two very good, but very hobbled teams and you've got the lubriderm out and ready to go. You very well might be good this year, but I think you're getting a little ahead of yourself. And don't forget that we were 1 yard away from putting this one into OT. It's a long season my friend.

That's all I wanted to say. Back to the regularly scheduled program of you waxing poetic about the Great Dolphins for 10 consecutive pages.

LOL.

I know it hurts to have your team (and AFC favorite) get wiped to the floor on both sides of the ball against a 1-15 team last year. Like you said, you didn't watch the game.

And please with the injury excuses. Miami has a couple as well.

And no one is saying playoffs for Miami.. I said they have a good chance to be a .500 team this year.. And I am saying what I said in preseason when Miami showed great push on both sides of the ball against teams with great lines (when starters were on for both teams in 1st and 2nd quarters).. And we saw that push against teams with good lines in NE and SD over the last two games.. Often times making those teams look ridiculous.

Sure , they started off slow to start the season.. But a young team, and a team that has young "talent" on the lines usually starts off slow and get much better after a few games under their belt to start off a season.. and that's what we are seeing here.
