The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

Has Kyper spoken today? I'm excited to hear what new bullshit he spews about the GM "race." I'm turning into a Toronto Sports media aficionado, mostly because I hate myself, but also because I like seeing them look like fools.

Meruelo's been doing his very best to fuck up the GSR here in BLC, and smart people have money on "wait and see," at best, for his hockey plans here, too.

IMO you really can’t overstate how bad of an owner Meurillo was.

The Coyotes went from one of the worst teams in the league to a good team immediately with the same management just by switching owners.

Alex Meruelo is a piece of shit, no doubt. From what I’ve heard about him, he seems to be cut from the same cloth from Trump in terms of how he does business with people.

But that doesn’t mean that Chayka didn’t also conduct himself like a greasy, unethical fuck who was completely out of his depth while he was Phoenix’s GM. Even worse is that he wasn’t even competent at being greasy, considering he got caught and punished by the league twice.

I’m also at a loss to figure out what exactly it is about his track record in Phoenix we should be impressed with. His teams were shit, his drafting was shit (in spite of having a million picks) and his trading record is lacklustre at best.

This guy should not be in the conversation at all. If he wants to try and break back into the NHL, let him go be an AGM for some Mickey Mouse backwater team. He has no business running this one.

the Coyotes were one of the worst teams in the league when he took them over and he left them as a playoff team within 3 years with the cards stacked against him.

Also he was 26 so he obviously shouldn’t have been named GM. That’s legit crazy. He still did some good stuff though (Schmaltz, Keller/Chychrun, DeAgenlo, Crowse, Kuemper). Analytics truther.

He’s way more intriguing than Tre.

Herpes is way more intriguing than cancer.

As for making the playoffs...nah man. They made the covid qualifying round (which they won), and were 11th in the west at the time play shut down. They were on an 87 point pace for the season. That's the high water mark of his regime.

Under normal circumstances, they were way out of the playoff picture again.

It’s a real huge stretch to try and credit him for “getting the Coyotes back to the playoffs”. Considering:

  • It was the 2019-20 Covid playoffs they “got into”. And at the time play stopped that season, the Coyotes were 22nd out of 31 teams overall and in 11th place in the West in points percentage. In any normal year, they miss handily.

  • Technically he didn’t get the Coyotes back to the playoffs, since he had to quit immediately prior to the playoffs starting due to being a greasy fuck.

  • Every other year of his tenure they missed the playoffs and after he left, they went right back to missing the playoffs every year since, again, his drafting was shit and his trades didn’t add any notable talent to the roster

And Ok, so he wasn’t qualified at 26…exactly what job experience between then and now makes him qualified now?

And being more intriguing that Treliving is an extremely low bar to jump over. A potted plant would be more intriguing than Treliving, but that doesn’t make it a good choice to run the Leafs.

He didn't do anything really intriguing for me, and whenever I hear him talk, it's a bunch of old school/old boys club trash about intangibles, toughness, 2 way player, etc. Fake nerd to the max. Unless he learned and has changed, which is possible.

You compared him to Tre.

he clearly improved the team. He acquired the guys that are still the teams two best forwards, plus another one of their top 6 for very little. I mean Schmaltz/Crowse/Kuemper trades are exactly what we need.

I just don’t get the “he’s not interesting at all” take.

He’s an analytics guy that actually did pretty well in way over his head and working for one of the worst owners the NHL ever had. Plus have you seen his sister?

A marginal increase in “expected goals percentage ” year-to-year while still handily missing the playoffs every year is not something I find the least bit impressive.

And sure, he acquired Nick Schmaltz who is still a decent player for the Utarizona Mammoytes HC to this day. But he acquired him for Dylan Strome, which seems pretty close to a wash to me.

And who’s the other dude he acquired who’s still one of their “best forwards”? Perpetual 40-point player Lawson Crouse?
