Looks like the Lions owe the city of Three Rivers over $1 million. I always assumed the team was owned and operated by the Habs but apparently not.

Canadian ECHL teams could be shut down this week

The two lone Canadian ECHL teams could have their operations suspended on Tuesday if a sale can not be agreed upon, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

Yeah I knew they weren't owned by us but there was a benefit to us having them exist as we could put our extra players there. The problem is that the people of the great town of Trois Rivieres were not stupid, they knew they weren't seeing guys who might make the NHL soon, and it isn't a rich town either. Add that up and you have the Charlestown Chiefs. Where is Dick Dunn when you need him?

Gotta have some sympathy for the Newfie fans, they constantly get the short end of the stick when it comes to pro teams.

I mean, it's like with the St. John IceCaps. I'm sure it's a good hockey market, but for a league that's always very tight on their budget? It's fairly expensive to go play there.
