Tom Dundon Buying the Portland Trail Blazers

Tentative ... for now. Not sure Dundon's quest to bring major league baseball to Raleigh has any real legs, so he might be diverting whatever war chest he assembled for that to buying the Blazers.

I thought the contract for the building upgrades permanently nicked that. Isn’t it financially ALMOST impossible for that to happen now? At least for 20 years. Not that I think he would anyway. He’s been very happy with the business relationship here and loves the area even though he is still permanently in Texas I think

I don't generally like the idea of Dundon being distracted by ownership of an NBA franchise on the other side of the country. As long as the Canes continue to get their's (and I have no reason to think they won't given Dundon's involvement in the reshaping of the entire area around the arena), then I can be convinced this Trailblazer daliance won't matter (if it really happens).

MODA Center is in the middle of a remodel. It’s owned by the City of Portland, which bought it from Paul Allen’s estate last year. It’s managed by Rip City Management, which is owned by Paul Allen’s estate, presumably that would be included in the purchase. Its location doesn’t lend itself to a Lenovo Center-style redevelopment. It’s constrained by Interstate 5, Oregon 99W, Veterans Memorial Coliseum and a small road. But as a downtown arena, there isn’t much need for other amenities.

Pish ... logic can't derail that train. Kind of like how he's so poor/cheap that it's a miracle that the Canes even have a full roster.
Hard to argue that Dundon's management style has been in any way damaging to the Hurricanes. Hands on, hands off, hand where ever ... we sucked before he got his hands on the franchise.
That said, it's my understanding that he's largely involved in a much more big picture way now compared to the first couple of years.

Portland might be one of my least favorite places I have ever traveled to for work and the NBA certainly has never floated my boat so this news doesn’t register much for this cowboy. It certainly does show how much financial clout Dundon seems to have overall though…that is one helluva fat sales price no matter how you slice it.
