Tony Stewart drives over competition....

Stewart do that on purpose?

I am afraid that Stewart was looking to scare him a bit, or maybe he was trying to give it gas as he went by so he'd fishtail after he was passed...but the bottom line is I think Stewart did not just drive by.

The thing is, Ward Jr. really dove at Stewarts car, and I don't see how Tony was expecting that. He was probably expecting him to yell, but it really looked like he was trying to get at the window.

I just watched the video again...though I stop before he's lying there...but I think Stewart's car fishtails the other way, not to his right like the other cars making the corner.

I don't know if that means he was trying to avoid him, or was he gunning for him?

On a banked surface like that, you'd expect the tail to slide down (away from the guy that got clipped) if Tony gunned it while going straight. But of course that means the front would go towards Ward, so it's kinda anyone's guess in terms of what Stewart was trying to do vs. what the 600+HP car on a slick dirt track actually did.

Unless they have some amateur footage from the rear I don't think anyone but Stewart will ever really know what happened... and perhaps he doesn't really know.

Why the **** is Tony Stewart driving in these races?

I read an article about this. A lot of the guys do it to help out these smaller tracks and whatnot. They do it to help build the sport and as pay back for when they were starting out... and I guess he doesn't have a wife or kids so he just loves to race anybody anytime.

Truth is that it doesn't really matter that it's "Tony Stewart" though. It's the kid running onto the track in a fit of anger that led to his death. Not that I'm breaking any news to you of course.

I agree. That guy who ran on the track is at fault, even if it is so tragic.

To me this is a classic case of over analysation. People are trying to dissect this video bit by bit to justify an outcome other than the very obvious one: the guy ran out onto the track in the middle of a high speed race.

To be fair, I haven't talked to anyone who thinks it was on purpose. I've heard that there are some kooks out there that think it was on purpose.

Yeah that's pretty crazy. I have read that the steering in those cars is very dependent on throttle and that it is tough to control...easy to see how that type of collision becomes unavoidable. Might also explain the sound of acceleration shortly before he clipped Ward. Of course, I have no clue if what I read was accurate so take it with a grain of salt.
