Too Much Starch (Podcast)

Is the Habs/Bruins rivalry the biggest in hockey? Or even the biggest in sports?

easiest way to answer the bolded part is this video:

We should probably say in North American sports because nothing we have here matches up to the crazy shit that goes on in Europe or even the Celtic vs Rangers in Scotland

I actually thought about editing it after... I definitely meant the 4 major North American sports.

I'd say some of the NCAA rivalries are more intense. Auburn vs. Alabama, Ohio State vs. Michigan, Oklahoma vs. Texas, Duke vs. UNC, Clemson vs. South Carolina come to mind immediately not just for the actual game, but also for the extra curricular stuff that happens around them.

Didn't specify pro sports there champ, when it comes to 4 major NA sports, hockey's probably 6th or lower. :lol

Whatever pal... it was obvious when I said "4 major NA sports" that I meant NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL.

I also wasn't claiming it's the biggest rivalry. The question was if it was the biggest rivalry in the NHL or possibly in sports (NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL.)

It probably is the current best rivalry in hockey, mostly because there aren't any good ones floating about right now.

Yeah and Vancouver-Chicago has some teeth. I think the one good thing with this wacky new playoff format is that in a couple years there should be some legit hate brewed up. The Cali teams seem primed to savage each other over the next few years.

How do you classify the "best rivalry"? the most intense atmosphere i have ever seen was last year in montreal when TFC played in Olympic stadium. Separate subway stop TFC fans, supporters need to be in the stadium an hour before kick off, fully armed police officers segregating fans walking to the stadium etc... This goes for Portland vs Seattle as well.

Yeah these divisional rivalries should get pretty nasty within a few years here.

1. Carlyle - will he be the coach in October?
2. Laviolette and the Preds, how will his style improve the offence for them?
3. Impact of Jansen coming back to the Jays Pen

Sorry for this impromptu Pod, but it sort of came to a head at the last minute and will be our last one for a while, as both the Cake and I have vacations coming up and neither of us want to be a solo act.

To those that listen either as a favor to me or because you genuinely enjoy it ( god help you if this is the case). I really appreciate it either way, and can't wait to have fuller, longer epi's when we both get back.
