Trade Deadline 2023

Yah, don’t get what Detroit is trying to do here.

Right now it looks like they’re bringing a knife to a gun fight.

What a joke of a season, no real assets added and won’t even end up with a top 7 pick or difference player. Terrible

We got a first for Monahan already

Actually got something for Dadonov which is surprising

What other chips are they actively looking to move other than the injured guys?

Here's my thing with Monahan, and to an extent Edmundsson: I don't understand the strategy of waiting to the very last minute before trading players with injury histories.

Sorry, but is anyone actually surprised that Monahan got injured and missed what seems like half the season? Calgary didn't just suddenly trade him for the hell of it, there was a reason. His body's failing him and in the time he was playing with us, he was excellent. And yeah I get it that hindsight's 20/20, but we could have gotten a real asset in return for him had we not waited around.

Same thing with Edmundsson: He's missed a bunch of games since last year with what seems to be the same re-occurring injury.

Interesting note, Tony Sund is Adam Engstrom's D partner.
We also apparently gave San Jose the rights fo Arvid Henrikson, a guy we took in the 7th rounder back in 2016 who's a senior in the NCAA, but still can't get real ice time.

Not sure what the point of trading Sund or Henrikson was, but yeah.

If you're not getting anything offered of value then you wait.

Yes they're both injury prone but the gamble is they'll be healthy enough again to move. Edmundson has a year left and Monahan will likely sign a year deal. Nobody is giving him term.

Trade them in the summer when they're healthy or seriously time manage the two.

relax

It takes two to tango.

Other teams may want to wait:

to see if they can fill their needs internally
to see if these guys are healthy
to see what else is available on other teams
to take on a smaller cap hit that shrinks with every passing day
