Updates and Rumours from around the League

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Gerber actually played pretty well for the brief period he was a Leaf (and probably cost us a few spots in the draft)
I agree. Gerber is a decent, average goalie. He's no master of the SV%, but he a competent injury callup or at the very least, can share the starting job with another goalie of his calibre, and not cost the team with bad goaltending losses.
The joke, I think, is in the belief from some other UFAs that they should be much more sought after than Gerber, so his signing is like a slap in the face to them, when actually, it's proof that they are not all they're cracked up to be. Toskala, for example, couldn't even carry Gerber's jockstrap.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

i'm glad for gerbs. he is a quality person even though he isnt a no.1 NHL goalie. i'm glad to hear he's able to play next year after the pretty serious neck injury he apparently suffered last year in russia.

another canadian city might not have been the best choice for him though. he needs to be in a no-pressure environment without a canadian hockey press up his a$$.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

A friend of mine, a Sabres fan, just reminded me that Buffalo turned down four first round picks from Edmonton for Thomas Vanek which ended up being Hall, MPS, Tyler Myers (Sabres traded the 13th overall which ended up being Teubert to the Kings for this pick), and the Oilers 2011 pick, TBD.

Wow.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Hard to gauge that though. With Vanek perhaps the Oil finish a few spots higher.

Well, that is stupid. If we would have gotten rid of Vanek, Edmonton's team would have been THAT much better. You can't know what would happen. It's like saying what if I didn't go gay that one day?

Whaaat?

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Kaberle will be traded next week imo.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

I think you might see 2 deals.

Kaberle to LAK for prospects.

Then the prospects Burke aquires for more of a help now player.

Just spitballing but perhaps.

Kaberle to LAK

B Schenn
T Hickey
1st to TOR

then

N Kadri
T Hickey
1ST

to ANA

B Ryan to TOR

Ryan Bozak Kessel
Versteeg Schenn Kulemin

your new top 6

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Would be poop with B Schenn in the middle. Not that I think he's going to be a bad player, but I don't see him being ready for that role yet.

PLUS, I'm not sure I like said package for Ryan. Would I do it? Maybe. But I think giving up Kadri would hurt us in the long run.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

If LA is giving us Schenn + 1st + Hickey for Kaberle Burke would've done it already.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Bobby Ryan is a Frank Mahovlich like player. I don't know if he would survive too well here. He can fight when prodded. But he is sort of soft, or lets just say, doesn't look for a contact.

And Ryan is BETTER than Kadri, but Kadri has that personna that this Leaf team really needs.

Ryan, better player, Kadri, is possibly going to be the most popular Leaf ever. I can't wait till his first face wash on CBC.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Thank God we have Burke actually. He is someone who understands that we are in an entertainment game. Winning is entertainment.

If he actually trades Kadri, he had better do it before we see his act. Because Toronto fans are SOOOOOO starved for a guy like this, he would be scalped on the street if he traded him mid season.

So Burkie, if you are going to let the kid go, you had better do it before we fall in love.

I like Ryan. I appreciate talent, and the kid has tons of it. And he is willing to go into traffic areas as long as he has speed going in.

But I fell in manlove with Kadri after I saw him facewash three or four guys 40 lbs heavier than himself. Reminded me of myself.

In fact, I played identically to this guy, and was pitchforked in the face because of it. Parents took me right out of the game. So I could definitely live through him for a good long while.

And ANYONE else missing HockEY????

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

I'd be pissed if he traded Kadri to get Ryan. I want to see this kid develop. He's got incredible potential and the value is likely to fly once he starts to show it.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Ryan has the potential to be 95 POINT WINGER......i Don't see that for Kadri

And Brayden Schenn was drafted higher than Kadri, and in my scenerio you get him as a replacement.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

I love Ryan, and I love Kadri, but to be fair, ignoring the 2 players' ceilings, you gotta admit Kadri is about 300 times more entertaining than Ryan.

I mean, Kessel can score, and that's great, but he doesn't come CLOSE to how Kadri can bring the whole ACC to their feet. And I've always seen a lot of Kessel in Ryan.

Kadri is a special player. Not only he has potential to be a top line forward in this league, but this kid has CHARACTER. He's gritty, he's borderline dirty, he's extremely intense, he is pesky, but bottomline his plays tell you he HATES to lose, and Toronto cherishes players like that.

Personality-wise, he is a mix of Darcy Tucker and Doug Gilmour.

I'd hate to lose this kid, especially for a player as bland as Ryan.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

When he said that he believed he was still a #1 goalie, I guess he never did specify which league it was in.

As an aside...**** me I'm getting tired of Toronto being the last stop in the NHL for shit european players.
