Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

There will be no first liner in the Kaberle deal.

Count it.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

ha ... guess i didnt look back far enough in the thread.......my bad

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Could you elaborate a bit on that?

It seems like you're saying that if the best offer Burke could get was a 2nd liner and a pick, he'd of made the deal already.....instead of waiting for offers to get better?

No, I'm saying that if Burke knew that was the best offer and he was willing to move Kabs for that, it would have been done by now. Or if he wasn't, Kabs would have been extended. the fact that neither has happened suggests we're going to do better than that scenario.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Not really.........although it does show (as Burke himself has stated numerous times) that he hopes to do better, by waiting till the very end.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

It's smart to wait til the 11th hour regardless whether he has a deal he wants to accept, or not.

The offers have a chance to improve either way, and it's not like any of the interested parties are going to back out. There are no other comparables to Kaberle on the trade market or as an FA, so other teams understand the situation as well

If he's going to trade him, he either deals him at or before the draft, around July 1st when teams miss out on the other UFA Dmen, or now, once teams are scrambling a bit.

He obviously didn't get a deal he liked enough back then, so he tries now.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Frolov, 28 yrs old, 6'2, 210
09/10: 81 gms, 19 gls, 51 pts, -1 (82 gms, 20 gls, 52 pts, -1)

*Signed a 1 yr, 3.0 mill contract as a UFA.

Clowe, 28 yrs old, 6'2, 215
09/10: 82 gms, 19 gls, 57 pts, 0 (82 gms, 19 gls, 57 pts, 0)

*Talked about as the potential centrepiece of a Kaberle trade.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

And Frolov had two other 30 goal seasons and was a first round pick in addition to that. Last year was a disappointing year for him.

Exactly. Clowe will never score 30 goals and makes .6m more than Fro.

But to be fair, Fro will get a lot more on his next deal if he returns to form. I sure wish the Leafs could have taken that gamble...no question the guy would be motivated this season. He is a very good player and a top-line talent.

Players the Leafs have considered trading Kaberle for include the likes of Jeff Carter and Kessel, and those are just two we know about. There's no way he's trading him for a guy who maybe scores 20 goals in a great year.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

The problem with Clowe is that he has no upside at all. He's a guy who will score 50-60 points a year and play a 2nd line role.

It's not like he played limited minutes on a great team in SJ. He was 4th on SJ in ES icetime and he played over 2 minutes per game on the PP last year. That's about what he'd get in Toronto.

And SJ's 1st isn't very valuable, it's like a 2nd rounder.

If SJ won't give up a guy like Logan Couture -- you tell them to **** off.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

speaking of Frolov, it's funny that the Kings thought Poni was worth more than him.

I seem to remember a Poni-Frolov comparison in the past.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

I don't mind Clowe actually ... just not as the center piece for Kaberle.

And I'll say this - Versteeg > Clowe ... and he didn't cost us Kaberle.

Reading Cox's latest blog, he seems to think despite only 3 days left Kaberle will indeed be traded. His reason is Burke has shown everywhere he's GMed, and that includes here in Toronto, that he CAN pull off big trades. He had the guts to pull the trigger on the Kessel trade where he had to pay a major price, and when nobody thought he could make the Phaneuf, Vesa and Blake trades, he did it. It may not happen till the 11th hour, but Cox thinks Kaberle is good as gone.

And I have no question Burke CAN trade Kaberle ... it's just a matter of whether he can get back a young 1st liner, or at least a blue-chip prospect (say, Schenn) who can become a 1st liner.

So here's a strictly hypothetical question: if the Kings offer Schenn for Kaberle straight up, would you do it?

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

some guy on twitter suggested Kaberle and Rosehill for Dustin Brown
