B Schenn is a blue-chip prospect IMO, who is pretty much ready and play top 6 role this year, and has a very good chance of turning into a top line power forward in a couple years. Then there's also the Schenn factor.
I'd prefer to hold out for more, but if the best I get at the 11th hour is Schenn I think I might take it.
I don't think it's so black and white. I mean, if the Oilers offer Hall and their 1st round pick to us for Kaberle tomorrow, is Burke going to simply turn it down because he doesn't want "prospects and picks"?

I'd do Schenn for Kaberle straight up for sure.
Schenn's a well rounded player who posted comparable offensive numbers to Kadri the last couple years. He played at a 100+ point pace in his draft year and close to a 140 point pace last year.
And while he's not in the NHL yet, he will be in the NHL very soon -- like Kadri.
I'f you'd trade Kaberle for Kadri (which I would), trading him for Schenn make as much as sense.

yeah, if schenn were on the table i think you'd be dumb not to do it.
that's as good as you're going to get... and truth be told, even though i'm not totally enamoured with schenn's game... that's as good as you're going to get.
i think it's better than they'll get, if they do trade kaberle, too. if he's on the table, though, then you have to pull the trigger.

Yeah I agree with Player and mbow. The only thing is, for LA to offer Schenn, they will definitely need Kaberle to sign an extension prior to the trade. And the way things sound thus far, Kaberle and his agent are not going to entertain that idea cos they don't even want to move, and especially not to a west coast team.

I like brothers playing for the same team. This would be okay, might fire up Luke, help him improve. I feel so freaking sorry for Kaberle, I don't see how he would be all that happy to STAY now.

Its a backhanded compliment in a way. Yes he is being put on display but at the same time he is probably the most highly coveted player (next to Kovy) in the NHL who is available.

I wasn't aware that some people here are regular Freuds that are able to psychoanalyze Kaberle's feelings so well. The truth is that none of us know how he feels about the situation beyond sheer conjecture and the obviously slanted, posturing of his agent (who has a transparently obvious interest in ensuring that his client gets a big pay day down the line).

Yeah, I'd take it, if there was some reason why we have to trade Kaberle. But as there isn't, I'd rather keep Kaberle and have him continue to be a top offensive defenseman for us for at least another 5-6 years than roll the dice on Luke's brother.

Luke Schenn's career projection is a totally different discussion ... but that aside, I think while there are parts of Brayden's game I'm not overly impressed with, he should have no problem becoming a 30G/60Pts power forward in his prime in all likelihood, and that would make him a 1st line forward on pretty much any team.

After putting some more thought into it, I actually don't mind the idea any more.
I'm not necessarily against a move for the future when we deal Kaberle, I would like if Burke had another move in the pipeline for help now though. Someone like Clowe would be a nice addition, just not for Kaberle.
