Updates and Rumours from around the League

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Bill Sweatt signed with the Canucks today. His brother, Lee, is already with the organization.

Burke said on the radio the other day that Bill's agent, Scott Norton, had indicated to him that they would be able to reach an agreement and after the trade occurred, expressed to him that they wanted to go to free agency.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

This kindda news wouldn't usually make the headline but since this has been such a slow summer ...

Welly is free ... again
Despite all the talking up Don Cherry could do to Wellwood, the Canucks have elected to sign Malhotra as their 3rd line center. They don't see fit for Wellwood in their top 2 lines neither, and fat Willy turned UFA on July 1st.

Too bad Cherry doesn't own a team and hence Wellwood is still without a job.

"I am just handling it like the season is going to come and I will be playing hockey,” Wellwood told the Vancouver Sun. “That’s the only thing I know and the only thing I worry about.”

Let's see if Willy gets an invite at camp somewhere. Kyle had 14G, 25 points in 75 games last season.

No Sweatt for Leafs
Burke chose to go in a different directions after unsuccessful contract talks with Billy Sweatt's agent. His agent later said "I thought he was going to get back to me but I guess he chose to go in a different direction."

The 'different direction' was signing of Mueller.

Sweatt has in turn signed with the Vancouver Canucks. Details of the signing are not known.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

we should definitely pick up Welly.
Yeah, if Welly doesn't mind helping out kids in the AHL. :)

Sorry I really don't want to trash on Welly here, but at this point I gotta admit he's a bust. If welly ever makes it in the NHL, it will be his offensive game that earns the paychecks. For him to put up 25 points in 75 games, it just isn't good enough for this league. I know his coach praised him for improvement in his defensive game, but this kid will NEVER be a checking line forward in this league.

And his 14G 25Pts can't make the top 6 on OUR team.

dchesnokov

Former #Devils fitness coach Vladimir Bure told SovSport he thinks the #NJD will move Elias to make room for Kovalchuk

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

I read Valeri Bure...haha... any relation?

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

Elias would be a good pickup. I didn't want to give up Kaberle for him, but if they could get him as a salary dump that would be huge.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

As for Wellwood, I thought he turned himself into a nice checking line center. Its too bad he's not bigger. I'd take him over Mitchy though.

I think Vancouver will be disappointed that they let him go to pay Malhotra 3 times as much.

Re: Trade Updates and Rumours from around the League

welly would likely be a nice boost for our PP.
