If you offered Kadri 5M x 6 this summer, it would be really hard for him to turn down that much guaranteed money coming off the type of raw numbers season it's looking like he's going to finish with.
I'm not sure...have we ever seen a player in Rielly's situation make a point of asking for a short-term deal?I was thinking 5M x 4-6 as well. Takes him to an age where if he is putting up good numbers he can sign another big money deal.
Yea if we can lock Rielly up for 8 years at around 5 million i'd be all for it. I don't think he'll do it though. I think he'll be confident enough to sign a short term deal and than cash in huge in a couple years. Similar to Subban. I hope we can get him inked long term before that though.

Has anyone heard about a rumor of Dion to Dallas?
• The Fourth Period: Dallas Stars sent scouts to Saturday's Toronto Maple Leafs V.S. Montreal Canadiens Game.
Reportedly, Per TFP sources, the Dallas Stars are Very Interested in TOR - Dion Phaneuf. DAL are looking to add a Top 4 Defenseman before the Deadline, and with prior interest in Phaneuf last year, it is possible Dion could be rocking the Green soon.

Kadri is fast losing his leverage. After this year, that's basically 3 straight years as a 50-point player since his big lockout year. Is that the sort of player you want to guarantee 5M+ for for a long term deal? I have a hard time pegging his value.
Rielly has pedigree, and if he ends the year as a 40-point D, could certainly look to cash in on coin. I can see him sign for anywhere between 4.5M and say 7M on a deal between 4 and 8 years. 5.5M on a 5-6 year deal for him is likely a reasonable compromise - I doubt he would want to lock in for a longer deal for less than that, and guaranteeing 7M for 8 years to a D who hasn't quite broken out yet is a very risky proposition.
The hockey press.... WORSE THAN EKLUND... like far, far, far worse.
Just look at their site.
"Dion Phaneuf" and "top four defenseman" without the word "not" in between them was the only clue you needed.
