Why is the media pimping Doughty for the Norris so hard?

Methot was injured for 13 games.

And yes, Karlsson played with both Borowiecki and with Cowen during that stretch, which you must know since you watch their games and have such a good read on the type of player Karlsson is.

Why don't we re-calculate Karlsson's numbers without Boro and Cowen, two stiffs that don't even belong in the league incidentally. I bet those numbers wouldn't make you feel as good.

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with Burns since he had a great season himself, but Doughty is the #1 guy on too many lists, and baglickers like Dreger are the reason for it, not Doughty's play.

A whole 13 games eh?

I watch them enough to know that he doesn't normally play with those scrubs. He plays with the other scrub, Methot.

This is a really, really sad argument.

There's justification for Doughty being better overall than Karlsson this year, whether you like it or not. Again, I'm not judging on who I think was better, but your argument that it's silly to even consider him is just plain wrong. Defensive play matters.

Karlsson isn't as bad defensively as you think he is.
Doughty isn't as good defensively as you think he is.

Sure defense matters, but so does offense.

Doughty had to carry Muzzin, Schenn, Martinez, Scuderi, McNabb. Kings had a better system that Ottawa but let's not pretend he played with group of world beaters.

drew doughty was arguably canada's best, most important player in 2014. whenever this guy gets matched up against the best, he shines - perhaps moreso than any other player in the world.

he's undoubtedly one of the 3-5 best defensemen in hockey, period, and not undeserving of a norris, in any season.

he's amazing.

Karlsson had the worst defensive outcomes on a terrible defensive team
Doughtly had the best defensive outcomes on an elite defensive team

Karlsson has more takeaways, less giveaways and more blocked shots than Doughty, but he's worse defensively. How can that be?

Doughty played like hot garbage against the Sharks. He was on the ice for just about every goal scored against.

No matter how you dice it, 51 points ain't enough to win the Norris.

Outcomes man, outcomes. Doughty has the best outcomes among all Kings defenders. When he's on the ice, the opposition scores fewer goals per 60 minutes of 5 on 5 play than any other defender. In Ottawa, Karlsson was the worst among 8 qualified defenders in goals allowed per 60 minutes. So even accepting that Ottawa is a dumpster fire defensively and the Kings are excellent, relative to the hot trash defence core Ottawa trotted out there this season, Karlsson had the worst outcomes. More goals allowed per 5 on 5 minute played than Cowen.

Let that sink in for a minute.

Heard somewhere that Burns (my vote) will lose some votes because of his look. I have no reason to doubt that -- The amount of shallowness in NHL awards (and HOF) is very underrated.

I'm sure if a Leafs or Habs player had just lead the league in assists (first D since Orr) and put up a point per game, you'd all be screaming blue murder if anyone suggested the Norris should go to anyone else.

When the best stat they can find from your season is "carreer best +/-" you aren't worthy of consideration.

Unsensible said it best, right ? Guy had a lot of assists. That must make you a Norris caliber d-man.

It's as silly a reason as giving PK the Norris for being the best defender on the PP that year.

Primary Points >

and in Primary Points, Brent Burns tied Karlsson, but with 10 more goals scored.
