OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Because they're idiots.

With the amount of continental airspace we have, simply to protect our sovereignty, we absolutely require a functioning, well equipped RCAF to defend our airspace. Where I get a little touchy is when we start talking about spending many billions on a fighter that's main utility is in it's ability to project aerial power on battlefields abroad, which is what the F-35 is really for. It's not a fantastic interceptor style fighter by any stretch, and that should be the main concern when we're procuring imo.

I agree. We have to ask how the equipment will be used - this is a big ticket item and some cold cost-benefit analysis is warranted. This raises major issues related our role, as a modest mid-major, in overseas "power projection" and the role of these aircraft? What is our role, exactly? Is this the best way to work with our main ally? And is there a more cost effective way to defend our air space?

I have no problem with spending on military hardware, but the military should not get a carte blanche when spending billions of dollars.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

How'd that gun registry thing work out? 1 billion+ dollars later.

A hell of a lot cheaper than that F-35 thing worked out, that's how.
Where the hell are you "conservatives?" All I see are spend-happy RW nutjobs who allow the Dept. of Homeland Security to shut down Canadian websites; hosted on Canadian servers; owned by Canadians.
Meanwhile, Graham James will be a free man before the pot smoker.
Marvelous job.
Keep hanging off Harper's balls.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Conservative or not, I do NOT want an airplane that can bomb Libyan strongholds. I want a plane that can scare the shit out of Russian warship in the Arctic. NOTHING speaks "you're f****d if I wanted to f*** you" like an F-22 blasting by the ships tower at Mach 2 when NOTHING showed up on their radar screen....other then their spilled vodka.

Mark this date on your calendar, folks. I actually agree with the guy who has a clown for his avatar.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Australia isn't reliant on New Zealand or Indonesia for their defence requirements.

And why is it that the left is so eager to demonize the United States at every opportunity but is also perfectly content to hand over a large element of our national sovereignty to them?

because they can

Surely an unpopular thing to post, but from what I've seen of Hispanic cultures, the whiter or lighter you are, the higher social status you have. Same with Asians. Why do you think that the Asian women are all covered up and carrying umbrellas on sunny days.

In poorer/less industrialized countries, dark skin tone indicates not being wealthy enough to work and spend your time indoors. In richer, more industrialized countries dark skin tone indicates being wealthy enough to take time off work and spend it in the sun. Funny how that works.

It transfers over for a generation or more when the former culture comes to a place dominated by the latter, longer if the group that's being assimilated tends to still take on outdoor labor.

There are many people trolling in this thread. Trying to solicit responses from KB in a trolling manner is no better than what he is doing. Tons of hypocrisy being spewed.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Just to be on record.....

The F-22 is the spiritual successor of our very own Arrow.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

They stopped producing the F-22 last year. While it was technically advanced, better is on the horizon. Right now they're going with the cheaper F35. You can thank Obama.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

What is cool about the F-35 though is it comes in 3 models. One of which incorporates vertical landing and takeoff.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

What we need is the F-22. What we got is an overseas ground attack compromise.

Yeah, I was barking up that tree years ago, but Jays is right, the Yanks don't want to share. Yet another reason we should tell them to stuff their inferior F-35's.

thats the variant that they're REALLY having a lot of trouble with- the VTOL/VSTOL version. it kinda makes you respect the hell out of british electric for having figured out the harrier all those years ago. the f*cking argies figured out how useful that plane was...

To get to the "hopeychange" point promised. How much "hope" or "change" has the average American seen in their bank account the last 4 years? Foreign policy? Basic ecomonics? As Burton once crooned, it's a sad, sad state of affairs. The guy is an epic failure.

His greatest failure is in trying to bridge the gap between the Reps and his party. He employed all the same people the Reps had in the previous admin, and kept on trying to work in a partnership with them for every new piece of legislation, despite how many times they just pulled out all the stops to obstruct what he was doing. Then, they used his dismal performance record, (the one they contributed to) against him to wrestle back some of the control in 2010.
He had some very good ideas that he should have just forged ahead with using the control he had of the house and senate. But he tried way too hard to work with a bunch of people who had no intention of working with a black president, or a democratic president. It was all wasted effort.

Canada wasn't going to get that model. The Americans were going to hoard that model for themselves.
Yet another reason we should have shopped around more.
