OT: American Politics

At one point Canada was ahead of the curve on solar. But we stopped investing domestically, and then when Canadian Solar set up shop in China, we slapped countervailing duties on imports of solar cells. Meanwhile China has been plowing billions and billions into the solar industry.

Not too late but badly handled up to now. Canada also has a geographical disadvantage but the production and storage technology now is making that less relevant.

It's time to recognize that China has won some of these industries and look to jump in downstream. Start building production facilities here and take the duties/tariffs off of the tech. We can't talk about decarbonizing out of one side of our mouth but then blame China for not letting carbon politics hold up the development of future tech industries on the other because we don't like them.

Let’s just not. Create huge incentives for their Canadian competitors and let the U.S. companies rot. We’ll buy their tech at a discount in bankruptcy sales, thanks very much.
