how can we directly target american green energy companies that will be badly hurt by this bill with subsidies of our own i wonder.
Have you been to China? Last time I was in Hong Kong (2024), the chemical smoke coming from God knows what manufacturing process was so thick, you couldn't see 300 meters. Aircraft were flying 100% on instruments because the only thing pilots could see from 1,500 feet were tops of mountains. We started seeing it 20 minutes before we landed, and that's a fraction of the area it covered. Think about some heavy fog coming off the lake, except it has a horrific chemical smell and burns the back of your throat & your eyes so badly that you have to wear a mask and stay indoors. And that's what they let us see. Imagine the nonsense they don't allow westerners near. It was a thick blanket covering the countryside where you couldn't even tell where the ocean started and the land stops. Couldnt even see houses, villages, or roads on a bright, sunny day. They don't give not one single fuck about the environment nor the residents, children, and workers having to breathe that shit. I asked a few people about it and it apparently, was just another day, nothing out of the ordinary. They might be making some cool stuff, but at what cost to the air, land, water, and population? Nobody's monitoring or keeping that in check, at all. It's time to recognize that China has won some of these industries and look to jump in downstream. Start building production facilities here and take the duties/tariffs off of the tech. We can't talk about decarbonizing out of one side of our mouth but then blame China for not letting carbon politics hold up the development of future tech industries on the other because we don't like them.
