OT: American Politics

Dr. Angela Gardner, president of the American College of Emergency Physicians, who assessed the Press Ganey's Pulse Report 2010, says the report reveals the average length of stay in a U.S. emergency department increased to 4 hours, 7 minutes.

"The report finds pockets of good news, such as shorter times overall in Nevada, but nobody can possibly call a national average of more than 4 hours in the ER something to cheer about," Gardner said in a statement.

because i've had family members die up here in canada waiting for medical treatment. because i have friends who live in the US (luckily who have healthcare) who tell me about how it works down there. and because its generally well-known that wait times in the US are substantially shorter than they are up here for many medical services.

i know its true kinda like how i know spezza is better than phaneuf over on the other thread. its just generally apparent to all.

It demonstrates the ignorance at the basis of much of the anti-obama sentiment, and how it isn't based on what Obama has or hasn't done.

sneaky. very sneaky. the first number shows us "time in emerg" in a US district- time waiting and getting treatment. the second number shows WAIT times before treatment, and you have clearly cherry-picked the best jurisdiction in canada to compare. anyone who has been in emerg in ontario knows you are pretty much NEVER there waiting for the little amount of time you see there, let alone there for that little amount of time waiting and being treated.
 
I think waiting an extra hour or two might be a decent trade for a $10,000.00 bill, but maybe that's just me.

kinda like ignorance and prejudice was at the basis of much of the anti-W sentiment. you know that elton john has come out in the last few weeks to say that he thinks W is a great guy, right? if W was good enough for him, shouldnt he be good enough for you? (and leafovic?)
 
If the wait has increased in the States, I will gladly put money on the fact that it is mostly do the the fat, lazy, scooter-riding dough-heads that are clogging up the Wal-Marts and McDonald's drive-throughs. Learn some self control, stop shoving crap down your throats...and worse...stop doing it to your kids.

I said that wait times in the U.S were also a problem, I wasn't trying to pass that off as an apples to apples comparison, nor was I stating that they were better in Canada.

Wait times in the US are also a problem. To believe anything else is fiction.

how about waiting a few extra months for diagnosis and treatment of a malignant brain tumour? would that be a good trade? it wouldnt for me, but maybe thats just me (or one of my former teaching colleagues).
 
If you have a real emergency you get in quick as well. We've all been to emerg and seen people "suffering" from the flu clogging up the waiting room. The difference is, in Canada, a heart-attack victim can be treated and not have to worry about his mortgage.
