OT: American Politics

Either way its a waste of money. Campaigns have turned into something pretty ridiculous. Its all attack adds and PR missions. Save the money and just have a bunch of debates where you can actually talk about issues and your platform and stop treating the electorate like they are a bunch of idiots.

No argument from me on the waste of money. But then, elections are all about money - and that's the core problem to begin with.
As for the electorate, they ARE a bunch of idiots, for the most part. One moron I was talking to recently is still holding on to the "Obama is not an American" bullshit, and refuses to accept both the forms of birth certificates he released. "He's a Muslim!" he insists. "So where was he really born, then?" I ask. He calls his adult son over and puts the question to him. His son says, "I don't know... Al Qaeda?"
**** me... I never knew Al Qaeda was a country, until now.
They watch Faux News religiously. The elder thinks that Bill O'Reilly is the smartest news person on the planet.
Faux News popularity proves that if you bullshit and word drop often enough, the people will drink it up. And they have.

You know what's funny, though, is that the CBO, WSJ, and Forbes all agree that Obama isn't a big spender in the least.

Almost everyone believes that Obama has presided over a massive increase in federal spending, an “inferno” of spending that threatens our jobs, our businesses and our children’s future. Even Democrats seem to think it’s true.

But it didn’t happen. Although there was a big stimulus bill under Obama, federal spending is rising at the slowest pace since Dwight Eisenhower brought the Korean War to an end in the 1950s.

Even hapless Herbert Hoover managed to increase spending more than Obama has.

Here are the facts, according to the official government statistics:

• In the 2009 fiscal year — the last of George W. Bush’s presidency — federal spending rose by 17.9% from $2.98 trillion to $3.52 trillion. Check the official numbers at the Office of Management and Budget.

• In fiscal 2010 — the first budget under Obama — spending fell 1.8% to $3.46 trillion.

• In fiscal 2011, spending rose 4.3% to $3.60 trillion.

• In fiscal 2012, spending is set to rise 0.7% to $3.63 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office’s estimate of the budget that was agreed to last August.

• Finally in fiscal 2013 — the final budget of Obama’s term — spending is scheduled to fall 1.3% to $3.58 trillion. Read the CBO’s latest budget outlook.

Over Obama’s four budget years, federal spending is on track to rise from $3.52 trillion to $3.58 trillion, an annualized increase of just 0.4%.

There has been no huge increase in spending under the current president, despite what you hear.

this never happened did it?

Saying "If I'm healthy, why should I have to pay more in taxes that will go to people that aren't?" which you just said a few posts ago isn't being a selfish douche? Really?

read more carefully and less bitchily. i am suggesting that people should have more CHOICE to make my own health care decisions, about how much coverage i think i need, and how much i want to spend. you want to call that being a "douche", i say f*ck off.

its incredible how vicious, pretentious, arrogant, and intolerant the "compassionate" left is. anyone who disagrees is a wacko or a douche. these are the same people who caterwaul about the loss of civility in politics and point fingers at the right for being responsible.

in response to someone arguing that between the US system and canada's system there is perhaps a more happy medium, you a$$holes resort to the standard hypocritical lefty technique of demonizing your opponent, calling them wacko or selfish, all the while pretending that your own $hit don't stink.

Ontario has 280 billion dollar debt and 15 billion dollar deficit. Is the Ontario tax system "broken" for generations?

You've clearly gone full potato here, comparing Ontario with Greece. Full.****ing.Potato

Not worth the keystrokes showing you why.

Have a nice day.

And the people who can't afford the coverage they need, what about them?

the US can do better. i havent said otherwise. i have never argued that the US system as its presently constructed is perfect. i will say again for about the 6th time now that between the US system and ours is a happy medium. harpycare isnt it.
