OT: American Politics

I don't believe in the the govt funding broadcasters. End of story.

That's fine. You're entitled to that opinion.
But if the issue is wasted federal monies, you target the biggest wastes first. I don't agree with funding an industry that already makes billions per month.

Where would they be without it?......one of the most important battles being fought right now is the battle for mindless entertainment vs enriching ones intellect, and stations like PBS are one of the few still fighting the good fight.

For the pittance it costs, it's an embarrassing statement on society in general that people actually think this is a portion of the budget worth quibbling over.....

I don't think the illiteracy rate would fluctuate if PBS was gone. I really don't care if it stays or goes. It's like $10 to you and me in the grand scheme of things.

Let's talk about something more important... Benghazi. New reports coming out that the original reports are bullshit and the WH made stuff up. Will this bite Obama next debate?

more education > less education.

Which is really what makes it such an absurd talking point, given the value it provides......it's such an unfathomable waste of time to even discuss something so paltry. I'm embarrassed Romney brought it up, and embarrassed the Dems continued the conversation.

I haven't watched the Stewart-O'Reilly debate but they did apparently did get into this issue. You might want to check it out.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

that was just a start. sit me down with a budget summary and i'd tell you many ways that i would cut.

Okay, you remember back a couple pages when you said how difficult it would be for someone who hasn't been trained in your job to walk in and talk to a bunch of school kids?

Saying that you could single-handedly draft a budget that cut expenses in the province is like saying that you could single-handedly pilot the first manned mission to Mars with no training. Let's not even get to trying to cut expenses by 14 billion dollars without touching wages, pensions or benefits which make up 55 percent of every provincial dollar spent.

That was easily the most asinine comment you've made in this thread.

I already did. And you should.
Another point made was that perhaps Bill-O should ask for his Iraq war money back. You're missing some great points.

They did but not for long. It was silly. You can download the debate off newsgroups or torrentz if you're into that stuff.
