OT: American Politics

What do I think happened? A little less than two months before election? Use your imagination. This was a Bush move all the way and I guarantee it will be pounded by Romney next debate. Remember Obama and his "transparency" promises? Yeah that.

Actually, I'd rather the truth, all of it, be exposed. I agree that Romney's camp will hammer at this, as they should. And I also agree that it stinks to high heaven. These are the tactics of government we can never defend.

I guess the truth didn't jive with Obama's narrative that he had effectively destroyed Al Quaeda with his drone attacks on Al Qaeda leaders, killing of Osama, and the Muslim world's supposed love of him.

The congressional hearing should hopefully shine some light on exactly what took place.....and give us a clear indication of exactly what was lies, and what was a result of lack of knowledge. Will definitely be interesting to see what comes to forefront over the next few days.

Private broadcasters don't create programming like this because it doesn't "sell". Would you rather create the next Jersey Shore, or the next NOVA? If you were a television executive, and you didn't state the former, you'd be out of a job in a hurry. Television broadcasters are in the business of making money, and if that means selling garbage to idiots, so be it. PBS has a different mandate (thank ****ing god) and they do it for a pittance comparatively.

This attack on PBS by the right is ridiculous, but not unexpected. Though having an atheist with an engineering degree bob along with the beat that the religious mouth breathers are playing is a bit odd.

Of course i rather see more science programming. You are talking to a guy that goes out of his way to find it.

But......

It does not negate my two principles. Government should not be in the media in any form. If you cut, everything is on the table. If i was king, l would hang the makers of half the programming....and resurect Carl Sagen. But im not....and fundamantal over heart strings......

Just like Iraq was stockpiling WMDs and financially supporting Al Quaeda. Oh wait...

Obama just has to use the tried and true, I didn't know line. It worked for Reagan in Iran-Contra, why not for him too?

Problem is that he came out right away and continued to for many weeks, as did his U.N. Ambassador, proclaim that this was caused by a stupid video (that, btw, few people have ever seen).

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

This isn't about saving Ontario (and my god you are bad at using quotations). It's about fixing one bloated aspect that represents a huge cost to the province.

no, its not. drummond said the cost of public services is not the problem. education is being provided well, and at a cost that is very competitive compared to most other jurisdictions. the economist paid to study this problem disagrees with you.

Go ahead and back that up.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

Saying that you could single-handedly draft a budget that cut expenses in the province is like saying that you could single-handedly pilot the first manned mission to Mars with no training.

never said any of those things. never said you couldnt do it without looking at wages- which is why teachers are prepared to freeze- which drummond himself recommended against. and i never said i could sit down and on the back of an envelope balance the budget.

what i'm saying is, ideologically, you could identify which areas gov'ts SHOULD be spending money on and which areas they SHOULDN'T be, and make broad decisions about where to allocate resources.
