OT: Cars

It's an SUV, they'll never look as good as a car, but they're better looking than the Santa Fay... and Honda will always make a far superior vehicle to Hyundai or Mazda.

Yeeeeah. That's just not true. May have been when Hyundai was still releasing shitboxes like the Excel, but the cost of ownership is nearly identical between the Civic and Elantra with the Mazda 3 not far behind.

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but based purely on looks, you'd have to pick the Tucson.

There's no way that Hyundai or Mazda make the quality of vehicle Honda does. It's not even close. Hyundai may have improved in the past few years over the complete shit they had been making for decades, but they still suck compared to Honda. Hondas last forever.

You may prefer their look, that's personal taste, but the quality pales in comparison.

How many Hyundai's did you test drive before you blindly followed your brand loyalty to the CR-V ?

All that said, I didn't buy the Honda to impress anyone. I like the looks, but don't LOVE it. In it's price range it's comparable in looks to other SUVs. I went with Honda because they are just flat out the best vehicle for the money you can get. You won't find a more reliable vehicle in any price range.

Test drive? What's that going to tell me about how long it will last? I have driven plenty of Hyndais actually. My mom, my bother, 2 different aunts and my cousin have all had them. Only my one aunt has been a repeat customer. She's had like 3 or 4. Everyone else has sworn off of them.

You may love your Elantra. I admitted that I think it's a good looking car... and hell, yours may last for 10 years, but Hyundai just doesn't make the quality of car that Honda does. Maybe their new ones are the same quality I guess, but it'll take years to find out if they last, because everything they have made up until a few years ago just doesn't. Guess we'll find out in a few years if the 2012-13-14 cars are any good.

Your most reasonable post in this whole exchange. Hell, I wouldn't have bought an Elantra 5 years ago, but they make a completely different car now.

I don't doubt that they're improved and they'll likely be more durable... but chances are they aren't up to Honda quality in that regard yet.

Honestly, Honda has slipped in pretty much every regard. 2013 design vs. 2013 design, at the very least I'd say 'don't count on the Honda being more reliable.'

The fact that they're verging on late 90s Buick territory in terms of uninspired and bland designs and driving experiences doesn't help, but 'bland' doesn't cost you money.

You don't like the design that's fine but what basis would you have to say don't count on them being as reliable as they've always been?

I test drove a TDI Jetta this weekend. Worst seats I've ever encountered and at 36k purchase price....terrible.

Oh and for the record, I despise Hyundai's version of style. I find their cars very cheap looking up close.

That CRV looks much more solid than that plastic-y nightmare of an aztec knockoff.

Isn't this years model of the civic getting very poor reviews?

No idea... Wasn't in the market for a car so I never read anything about the Civic. Bad review for what though? Looks? Surely it can't be durability. Honda has been making the most reliable and durable vehicles on the market for 30 years. I can't see that changing in 2013.

I can't believe that this thread has been turned into an argument between two POS "crossver" (aka, big ass body on a mid size sedan platform) SUV's. Boring, under powered grocery haulers that handle like a brick being thrown through a dealership's front window.
