When Clarke MacArthur (who I like) is pretty likely to be your 4th best offensive player this season...nah, you don't. You need everyone of your forwards to be healthy and produce at near career best levels to be a good offensive club.

IMO lehner takes over as #1 by midseason anyways, as anderson falls back down to earth this year.

Just think about this for a second.

The Leafs finished ahead of the Sens last year. In the summer, it shook out like this.

SENS:
In: Bobby Ryan, Clarke MacArthur
Out: Daniel Alfredsson, Sergei Gonchar

LEAFS:
In: David Clarkson, David Bolland, Jonathan Bernier, Mason Raymond, Paul Ranger
Out: Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, Clarke MacArthur, Mikhail Grabovski, Leo Komarov


The Sens lost two key parts of their team, added one and failed to replace Gonchar in anyway.

The Leafs lost a few marginal parts of their team, added considerable scoring depth and buttressed their goaltending.

So, the team that was better last season actually made considerable improvements to their team. The team that finished behind them lost big parts of their team. But the team that lost pieces this summer is going to be the better team this season?

Ask yourself, is that logical?

The Sens offensive depth is fine. But ultimately we don't need to be a barn burning offense - we have the best goalie tandem in the league and one of the best coaches in the league.

The Leafs barely finished ahead of the Sens last year. In the summer Karlsson, Spezza, Michalek, and Cowen all recovered from injury.

Then they traded for Bobby Ryan and picked up Macarthur.

I think you're missing a couple things the Leafs did in there.
 
You act as though we lost prime Alfredsson, or like we ever had prime Gonchar.

Wiercioch and MacArthur easily pick up that slack. Then there is Corvo.

Conacher is going to surprise many this season.

We have plenty of depth up front.

2 of which are likely to miss significant periods of time this season with injury, 1 being a 26 yr old that has been very disappointing the last 1.5 seasons...then Turris & MacArthur.

I disagree, considering the injury prone nature of 2 of the 5 you mentioned.

For someone who likes to chirp at me about using 1.5 seasons of data on other points, you sure love proclaiming the best goaltending tandem in the league on a lot less data than that.

Using that criteria, the Leafs are also adding Joffrey Lupul and Jake Gardiner. Which would mean that in one off season the Leafs added two top six wingers, two thirds of their third line, two top four defensemen and a possible starting goaltender.

All in addition to a core of players that finished ahead of the Senators last season.

There is no logical reason anyone would put the Senators ahead of the Leafs.
 
It's like Sens fans forget that they had Karlsson in the lineup for 17 regular season games last season and went 9-8 with him in the lineup
 
Reimer also missed some games last year so they are adding him too. PLus Franson played on the bottom pair last season, so they are basically adding him also.

Wiercioch already played for you last year, scoring at a ~40pt pace. He's not new.

macarthur will have to have the best season of his career to pick up the slack from alfredsson.
