Here is a good source of discussion

Can't give a player a benefit that is not in his contract or you violate the CBA and the Salary Cap.

The WHL or CHL should step up. Some junior clubs make a lot of coin off the backs of these kids...

It's cheap not to pay $100,000.00? You truck drivers must be .5% types.

I'm no longer a truck driver... and 100K donation for the Montreal Canadiens is the equivalent of like $10 to me. If I could spend $10 to dramatically help one person I wouldn't hesitate... especially someone who I had a vested interest in.

So I can assume the check is in the mail?

apparently habs are not paying for expense. Junior association try to collect money for his expenses ! OUCH!!!!

The Habs cannot pay his expenses. If they give him extra benefits not in his contract they are circumventing the cba

I see . I mean Molson from his own pocket . could be a good gesture as it was mentioned .

He still.cant. it would still violate the cba.

Ie say detroit wanted a free agent. They cant say the wings will pay 5 million and mike illitch will give a three million bonus from his own pocket outside the contract.

These deals are expressly forbidden for any reason

The Habs can make an independent donation to a charity that ends up paying his bill so long as that charity was in existence prior to the mishap.

And what charity is stepping forward to do this? I know of none.

The only charitable foundation set up to pay the bill is the WHL's set up Tim Bozon Trust Fund, which of course was set up after the illness.
