Habs News & Notes: 2014 Offseason & Training Camp

As I think it would be better for DLR to learn in the AHL, I highly doubt that he can learn something from Sylvain Lefebvre, outside breaking his confidence.

Dude , seriously... give it a rest. What other team's fans would crap all over a player who finished the previous season with 51 points in 60 games. It's beyond ridiculous.

But, but he's small.

Funny how the same people who think McCarron is a future star are the same guys who think Desharnais isn't even an NHL player.

If you don't think he should be a first line centre... fine I can buy that argument. I even agree, I think we'd be a lot better if he was our number 2 centre (still playing with Pacioretty) and Galchenyuk getting another prime winger to play with. But to say things like he shouldn't even be employed, or should be in the AHL is ridiculous.

Consistently repeating this bullshit makes me think the person saying it doesn't have a clue about hockey.

MB is not stupid. If they are keeping him with the big team it will not be as a spare forward. Wouldn't shock me if Bourque is dealt.

I think the same, everyone is assuming its a Moen deal, but I'm not convinced.

I could also see us trading Bourque + someone for an upgrade on that someone. Remember we have over $3 mill in space to work with right now.

I get the sense Bergevin views DLR in much the same light as another of his picks with the Hawks - Marcus Kruger. A steady bottom-6 who kills solid minutes.

There was a problem with Desharnais' size when he was surrounded with guys the same size. But Gionta, Brière are out. Gallagher and him are the only two small guys on this team.

Everyone could be better with Ryan Getzlaf as their no.1 centre...

I agree.

Just saying that the people who hate him have an obsession with size.

Makes me think they are overcompensating for something in their own lives.

Some here have an obsession with size. I guess they feel loose in their jocks ;-)

You know... if DD was a complete liability on defence I would maybe have some sympathy towards the haters. But even that is more myth than truth. He didn't put up the big points in the playoffs but he was a respectable +4 and I couldn't remember too many goal against that were a direct result of his poor defensive play. I thought the effort was there in both ends of the rink.

Playoffs tend to frustrate plenty of the top offensive players. Last year...Crosby , Sharp, Pacs, Vanek, Mike Richards...for example

The biggest thing the haters can point to on his defense is that they say he is sheltered by getting offensive zone starts.

This is true in that he gets big offensive zone starts.

That said... i dont think playing your best offensive line high zone starts is sheltering. Its just good coaching imo.

Zone starts is only sheltering when you are giving huge offensive zone starts to a supposed defensive defenceman like a douglas murray (which we also did last year)

I dont mind when people moan when he gets knocked on the seat of pants. But saying he doesnt even deserve a job in the NHL is hating.

I've even heard some say that they wouldn't want him on the team even if he won the Art Ross. That's pretty much hating to me as well.

As the team's first line center he didn't put up enough points in the playoffs.

It was partly because he was matched up against some pretty good defenseman also

Which in the end is not a knock on DD but more of an issue that he isn't a genuine first line center but unfortunately deals with the matchups that come with being a 1st line center
