Leafs acquire Frederik Anderson from Ducks

I think most of us would agree that the trade itself is great, but the contract is an unnecessary gamble with a high risk of blowing up in our faces.

The Monster was a big Viking too.

Yeah and then Allaire had to go and mess with his entire playing style that had proved extremely successful. It took him years to re-discover his previous effectiveness over the past two seasons with Detroit.

Had Gustavsson been left to his own devices, I suspect that he would have had a much better experience with the Leafs than what transpired, but that's impossible to prove. C'est la vie.

Monster also didn't possess the NHL pedigree that Andersen has in which he has shown extended periods of dominance. If Andersen has another .920 season like he did last season, the Leafs are challenging for a playoff spot quite comfortably.

The same group of annoying fans who wouldn't stop the constant Bernier-Reimer comparisons that no one else found interesting were the worst part of the past two seasons aside from the shitty on-ice performance by the Leafs.

Yep. Here's hoping he plays well enough to shut mist of them up.

Reading the Ducks message boards a bit, they really liked this guy FWIW. There's the feeling that a handful of shitty games dragged down his numbers.

I'd look at it and see that the trade is a gamble, and the contract is also a gamble. I think either one makes sense for you to do, but doing both makes it a bigger risk of gamble. You really have to be sure that he's the right goalie for you going forward.

yup.

most annoying in this case meaning, of course, that you were wrong.

Lou on the contract:

“I think it’s extremely important,” Lamoriello said of Andersen’s new contract. “He has to know that we feel he’s our No. 1 goaltender, and that the support is there, the confidence is there, and the commitment is there.”

What? I never once took a side in that whole debacle. I actually thought it was silly to definitively prefer one over the other given that they had posted almost identical statistics to one another and that the certainty with which certain people argued (you for Reimer, others for Bernier) was bordering on the ridiculous.

Nice try though.

Going to wait to see what he can do with a new system and team before I judge too much.

Basic SV% is average advance stats say one of the better goalies in the league.

Let's see who is right

Ah, I mis-remembered. Thought he had posted a .930 or something for Detroit last season. He was pretty high up in the save percentage category at one point. Must have come back down to Earth afterwards.

Believe in our management guys. They have studied this guy for months. He's a huge goalie who looks like an advanced stats geeks' wet dream.

Well he has to be the right guy. If he's not we're ****ed for 5 years.

Anyone have a site with advanced goalie stats?
