Isn't it better for the development of the team to have someone steady playing behind them? My personal belief is winning is better than losing. Andersen helps us win more games than any of the other goalies moved this offseason. Atleast in my opinion.
We don't want to end up the Oilers. Sad sack team they've been for longer than we have and our future i'd say looks better than theirs. What were better options for the team at this point and going forward? I don't think they rushed into a decision. I think they identified the one true team/morale killing position on the team and made a move for a guy that has proven pretty consistent in his young career.
I don't think we got an elite goaltender but i think we got a guy that will be consistent enough to keep us in games. That is what we need most for such a young team. Wasting another season with absolute shit goaltending could be an impediment on some of the young players careers. Confidence goes a long way in a players development curve. Unfortunately there is no statistic to show how confident a team is beyond winning games.
Reimer didn't help his case being injured every season. Having to play Bibeau and Sparks when they were clearly not ready for the big leagues cost this team the ability to win. On the bright side we ended up with Matthews. As nice as another "Matthews" would be next season i really hope we aren't in the running for Nolan Patrick or whoever. This team needs to take a small step forward .
