The Motherfucking 2021 Season Thread

Oh yeah good call! I already forgot about Barrie! And yeah I don't count that as much because dubas almost reluctantly made that trade. Definitely wasn't his target. A different argument would be whether he should have made the trade at all if he didn't get what he wanted but yeah.
honestly I kinda see it as either:
1/ Kadri for Brodie (+ Jankowski) vs.
2/ Kadri for Kerfoot (+ Barrie)

so Barrie was the throw-in and Kerf the actual target. and if you look at it like that, it really isn't a terrible trade. other than Barrie being fucking terrible at defending.

Hyman (Dubas trade) - Matthews (Lou draft pick) - Marner (Dubas Draft Pick *interim co-GM)
Foligno (Dubas trade) -Tavares (Dubas FA) -Nylander (Nonis draft pick)
Mikheyev (Dubas signing) -Nash (Dubas trade) -Kerfoot (Dubas trade)
Thornton (Dubas signing) -Spezza (Dubas signing) -Simmonds (Dubas signing)

Extras: Galchenyuk (Dubas trade), Engvall (Nonis draft pick)

Campbell (Dubas trade)
Rittich (Dubas trade)
Andersen (Lou trade)

No one can say he didn't put his stamp on this team, that's for sure.

(I didn't double check all of these so if there's a mistake, lemme know)

This is entirely beside your point and really nit picky, but I refuse to give Nonis credit for Nylander or even Engvall.

I’m convinced that if Shanahan hasn’t come in and ordered the scouting staff to pick the most talented player available, Nonis would’ve jumped all over Nick Ritchie with that pick.

So I’d list the credit for those picks as either “Shanahan” or “Bergman”.

Think that's pretty fair. Went who with was technically GM but Nonis was clearly holding a spot for Shanny's guys at that point.

Oh yeah, the way you wrote it is correct. I just don’t like to miss an opportunity to shit on Dave Nonis.

As a GM, that man was a unique combination of all of Brian Burke’s worst traits and none of his good ones.

The media definitely did not like the Brodie signing very much based on what I saw. Not that it matters but it's pretty funny how wrong they are about everything.

Hell even 2005 yelled at me over Brodie because he was bad in his debut. He's a pretty good gauge of public perception.

TSN was pretty enthusiastic from memory when it went through

Barrie is 2nd in the NHL in dman scoring btw.
he would barely crack our third pair this year. hell he couldn't beat out Cody freaking Ceci for a top-four spot last year (or career AHLer Holl, at the time)

he gets primo PP minutes on the league's best PP (?)...

he remains an ES tire fire (I assume)

and he would be deservingly below Mo and Raz on our PP.

I mean the media is generally what, six months to a year behind reality when it comes to the Leafs?

granted, they're exxxxtttrrraa slow on Fred

18 months in my estimation

- They finally started to accept that Morgan Rielly was maybe a #1 defender when he was half way through a top 5 Norris season, and had been an average or better #1 for about 18 months prior

- Finally started to accept that the Leafs weren't bad defensively (which of course only required the Leafs to become a top 5 defensive team for that to happen) when the Leafs had been a pretty average defensive team for the previous 18 months

- Finally catching on to Freddy not being a #1 goalie anymore, about 18 months after he stopped playing like one.

Dubas should be getting blown daily for the Brodie signing. And Muzzin trade. Dude completely rebuilt their d in such a short period of time. Muzzin and Brodie could have Gudbranson and Tyler Myers or some shit. And it would have been in past managements.

Remember when it was impossible to address our blueline without trading at least one of Nylander or Marner? (but mostly Nylander)
