Most of the worst stuff I’ve heard is from stand up comics tbh. Considering their popularity I’m not surprised to see others thinking they’re hilarious by using the same behaviour.

You're not woke enough.

When you see a white guy you say "that guy over there. You likely don't say "that white guy over there". So why is it ok to say "that Indian guy or that black guy "?
I guess I don't see it as being any different than, "that blonde over there". Using an objectively identifiable trait/characteristic to ID someone.

For me, it would be different if it was "that Hindu guy". But people do use, 'the white guy' etc. and I don't find it at all offensive.

Hilariously enough, one term I find extremely offensive (and objectively inaccurate) is "Asian". I do not understand at all how this is okay and not offensive (I also try not to use it because I think it is idiotic, and offensive).

A stand up comic is paid to offend. I would expect it at a comedy club. Heck I've done open mic before and the audience is warned that they WILL get offended.

IMO that's a different scenario. The French / English thing in Canada is a deep as the American love of guns.

Well apparently Oriental is also insulting so there's that.

enough out of you, you've caused enough trouble for one day!

He completely derailed this thread!!!!

Back on topic — non racists all know the NHL final was rigged. My team and I are sitting on a firehose of evidence.... barely enough time get thru it all before draft day. The riot in Montreal will be Magnifique (that means magnificent for all you anti-immersion folks)

Don't worry, they'll overturn and reward us the cup on March 6.

I don't trust my own judgment for obvious reasons but based on the feedback I've gotten I think I'm good for once!

Yeah feedback from people cool with bigotry.

You might not want to start this up again.

dude.... Oriental was deemed insulting decades ago. I could not figure out why but I stopped using it.... none of my Asian friends thought it was racist but sometimes things get decided and that’s that

Sure he is but imitation is always going to happen.

I completely agree with the French/English thing for the record. I think Canada has dropped the ball immensely for the French speaking population. That alone is enough to cause resentment. Then as an English speaker you could say well I don’t see anything wrong…but wait. Imagine for a second you did not speak English and came out West. You would have almost no chance of figuring things out without some English. Is that right for a country that claims to be bilingual?
