The Fucking Season Thread - Redemption Tour '22

Thats the point he is trying to make.

He deserves his criticism for some moves but those hoping he gets tossed out with the bathwater better be prepared for the replacement. It wont be pretty

Generally not a good idea to be compared to other losers.

Sure...but who else are we comparing him to? There are 15 NHL GM's hired before Dubas. 2 have won cups (Armstrong, 2010 hire..won in his 8th year, & MacLellan in Washington who won in his 4th) and the rest have up and down track records...I mean, has Jim Nill done a good job? Hired in 2013 and has missed the playoffs 4 times, but made a fluke run to the Finals and won a first round randomly along the way twice. How about Doug Wilson in San Jose? 2003 hire.

We all want to see progress, but the idea of punting on the nerd this year is lunacy short of something truly ridiculous happening. Losing in the 1st round again isn't truly ridiculous.

The only scenario where I might consider firing him this year is if he has another trade deadline as godawful as last year's and then we go out in the first round again. But otherwise, it'd be jumping the gun.

He hasn't even been in the big chair long enough for his own draft picks to have had a chance to develop into NHL players. Sandin was his first ever draft pick as Toronto's GM, and he's only 21 years old.

I really like Dubas and his approach, would be hard to measure where he fits in among NHL GM's but he's got to be top 10 (prob much higher). As such, his replacement would almost certainly be worse, especially considering in these situations they usually hire someone very different.

So no interest in firing him, but if they do go out meekly in the first round again, something has got to change obviously. Maybe a new coach and Mitch trade but you know Dubas chair would get really hot at that point.

I love that the media fell all over themselves trashing dubas and the Leafs after 7gms, stating matter of factly that this was obviously a bubble team after dubas' disastrous offseason,... and now they look up and the Leafs are 3rd in the regular standings already and have decent chance to be first overall there and in the nerdies by American Thanksgiving.

That's some fast serve crow right there. Bunch of dummies.

What do the comparables look like for knies as a freshman putting up a ~60 point pace? He's obviously not on a top ten pick kinda pace but that has to rank fairly highly no? Especially for a late 2nd rounder.

There's a massive lack of forward thinking hockey executives. Leaves us in a goofy position with Dubas. You can make the argument that he's not the guy we're going to win with and whether we agree with that or not kind of doesn't matter....who the fuck do you replace him with? We've seen the work the legends like Lou and Holland have done recently....hard pass. The rest of the GM's hired since Dubas are largely ex players....Hextall, Drury, Adams, Fitzgerald, McCrimmon, Francis, Guerin....and I'm honestly not a huge fan of that, it's just the old boys club on steroids and a lot of upward failure.

Oh if they fire dubas they'll replace him with someone like Chiarelli. The organization would be set back ten years immediately. I can mock his signing of that fat useless sack of shit all day but at the end of the day it would be a horrifying decision to replace him. Horrifying and franchise killing.

Hope he scores more...

So he doesn't count as a U19, missed the cutoff by about a month...but the most hopeful comparison I've found yet is Chris Kreider.

If we're kind and drop him into the U19 block, here's the closest comparables I can find when you take a combination of production and size into account.

Kreider 6'3 215- .4gpg/.61ppg
Frederic 6'3 209- .5gpg/1.1ppg
Roslovic 6'1 190- .28gpg/.72ppg
Thompson 6'7 218- .56gpg/.95ppg
Tuch 6'4 220- .38gpg/.76ppg
Compher 6'0 190- .31gpg/.89ppg
Biggs 6'2 205- .24gpg/.46ppg
K Hayes 6'5 220- .16gpg/.64ppg
Coyle 6'3 215- .19gpg/.70ppg

Knies 6'3 205- .42gpg/.75ppg

So if he turns into a Kreider, Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch type, I think we did alright.
