2021-22 Season Hurricanes Misc. Thread

Brett Pesce and TDA have joined Bear on the Covid list. They’re quarantining in Raleigh.

Perfect. Carolina now has exactly zero available right handed D. Call ups to be announced soon, one would imagine. Also there's a rumor floating around that the Canes have talked to Dallas about John Klingberg. He's a pending UFA and would likely be a long term rental if that's even a thing that's real.

On the "upside" at least this will probably allow Pesce to get more fully recovered from whatever had him sidelined recently. You know full well he wasn't 100% when he came back.

I was just going to post this and As usual @andyt beat me :)
Keane and LaJoie I assume will be heading to Dallas?
Yeah ... you'd think. Smith and Lajoie both can play either side. They might bring Chatfield up as well, to have a spare right shot.

None of the usual suspects have any transactions…Canes, Wolves and CapFriendly Twitter are all silent so far.

In case anyone was wondering, it appears the magic number for having games postponed is 8. The Isles hit that and Sens had 10 but the Sharks were forced to play with 7 out earlier this season.

Joey Keane and Maxim Lajoie? Or Jalen Chatfield to get another Righty in there?

Slavin-Cole
Skjei-Keane
Smith-Chatfield

Yeah, that is going to be an interesting lineup tomorrow night.

As for what is going on with Covid around the Triangle area, if you are vaccine inclined and haven't yet taken the time to go get a booster if you are 6+ months from your initial vaccination, I would recommend not waiting. I am just getting back after suffering a breakthrough Covid case myself. For me it was no worse than a bad cold, but my smell and taste are still off. Vaxxed in April, masked all the time I go out, careful as I can be, but I still got Covid a couple of weeks ago. My entire household, all vaxxed, were fortunate enough not to get it (tested multiple times, I was the only one to test positive over a 10 day period and the only one who had any symptoms).

Anyhow, I don't want to turn this thread into a big discussion on the politics of vaccines, but I can say for sure that Covid is out there and spreading still and as those initial vaccinations wane in effectiveness, if you are 'pro vaccine' and are on the fence about getting a booster, I wouldn't wait too long.

Sara Civian tweeted a few minutes ago that Bear could be back for Thursday‘s game. He must have been asymptomatic or a mild case if that’s true, I can’t imagine his conditioning will be anywhere near up to par.

That is exactly what I thought as I walked by that stand Sunday. Definitely love the upgraded food option, but that place is going to be absolutely insane when they open it, and it will stay that way for a long time.
PDQ was a zoo when it first opened too. No arena food worth me waiting that long. Big crowd yesterday so all the concourse stuff was busy. Gave up twice on the BBQ nacho joint due to the line. To each his own.

Lack of a good burger has always been a problem at the arena (burgers have never been good). Shake Shack? That is a major upgrade on the burger side of things. If they are going to be selling shakes too along with Shake Shack fries (which I love) then forget it, that stand is just going to be mobbed.

Even PDQ has undergone a major improvement for this season with the replacement of their skinny fries with their waffle fries which are so much better.

All terrible for my efforts to watch my food intake.

FWIW ... same, except for the smell and taste issues. Mercifully I missed that great joy and delight.

Yeah, I complain about the food but never actually eat anything in the arena aside from the occasional cup of ice cream. I've given up on ever having anything there that's not straight up bad for me, so I just don't eat from concessions at the arena anymore. Shake Shack does nothing to move that needle, really. I just think if they put something fancy in, they ought to dedicate two stands to it instead of guaranteeing people a long wait. It's not like anybody would miss your garbage pizza or the taco stand nobody ever goes to. Wait. Don't change that one, because that's where I can get a bottle of water without waiting forever.

Somebody reported fairly early that he had mild symptoms and was feeling much better after a couple of days. That being the case, he's likely been allowed a bit of cardio so he won't be a complete mess when he comes back.

That was one thing that Amalie Arena had over PNC, lots of 'better food options' with more name brands than not (ie Outback bloom petals, burgers, steak sandwiches), Papa Johns, PDQ.

PNC is catching up though. Are they ever going to do work on the expansion of the arena that included more space for things like restaurants? I haven't heard anything about that in quite a while.

As for that unloved Taco place and its Pizza counterpart, I'm with you JB since that is my area too. I love the fact that those places are unpopular as it makes getting a drink much easier. Just hope they don't turn that Taco place into a Moe's quick serve type place or that pizza spot into a name brand place....

Good thing they started the season 15-4.
Everybody's going to have to deal with this to some extent, at some point. So I'm not worried too much about consequences. But the NHL better start thinking about managing the last month of the season and maybe running a bit into May, because some teams are going to have some real pileups in their schedules at the end. Unless omicron (NO, IT'S NOT OMNICRON) becomes an issue and the NHL bags on Olympic participation... which wouldn't bother me one bit.

Canes recalled Chatfield and Lajoie from the Wolves. They’re cheaper than Keane and Sellgren, by a combined $112k.

It's absolutely baffling to me that they still serve generic pizza and Mexican food when there are SO many options for a name brand to step in. Still, keep one of them for those of us who just want a soft drink or water, yeah?

And the generic Mexican food takes for-freaking-ever to prep. Makus Empanadas used to have a cart by the east side escalators but that disappeared, I think even before the pandemic.

With my wife and I both working from home, we can leave for games earlier. We used to stop at the Firehouse Subs store on Edwards Mill on the way to the arena but they close at 5 now. I’ll get the occasional sausage and peppers, or stop at PDQ if the line isn’t monstrous but I’m dying for more and better options.
