Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Extreme case of it. I even watched a bit of the game last night. Canes were really taking it to them but the scoreboard said otherwise. Just look at the faces of the players after that muffin goal you posted. All too familiar.

Despite all the acclaim about their hot start and Freddy's hot start, Alex Nedeljkovic has .923% with Detroit and is 25. That was a puzzling move by Carolina. They wait 5 years for him to develop, then trade him after his breakout season. And he wasn't even going to be that expensive.

Making the call: All of Mrazek, Reimer, and Nedeljkovic will have a higher save percentage than Freddy and Raanta by christmas.

Ned and Reims I can see. Not too sure about Mrazek.

But I guess Mrazek has a rep for being streaky too, which should hopefully at some point work to our advantage. Dude’s actually got to stay healthy for more than 10 seconds, though.

not sure why you'd believe in Reimer over Mrazek.

I like my call.

It's hard to like Mrazek with how things have gone so far.

He's played 10 second and was garbage, and the rest of the time he's just been annoying while the Great Woll stood toll.

That's fair enough. It's how I feel about KK.
KK is a baby though, still only 21 yrs old. You're confusing prospect fatigue with analysis here.

Freddy, we've seen so the same shit for years, even when the media was calling him a vezina candidate it was the same story. The story just got progressively worse the last few years. You don't even really know KK yet.

Feelings remain the same

Here's why most of us are so comfortable with calling Freddy trash:

Month by month SV% (4 gms or less omitted)

2021/22
Oct: .956
Nov: .904

2020/21
Jan: .892
Feb: .918
Mar: .876

2019/20
Oct: .901
Nov: .938
Dec: .904
Jan: .893
Feb: .884

In his last 10 months of starts, he's been better than a .904 (aka, bad) 3 times and he's been proper fucking dreadful (anything that starts with an 8) 4 times.

He also has a history of being worse to significantly worse in the 2nd half, even in his prime years in Toronto.

Just looking at prime Freddy years:
2018/19
Pre All Star: .923
Post: .910

2017/18
Pre: .920
Post: .913

2016/17
Pre: .921
Post: .913

And Mrazek?

Non-Covid years as well?

I still think Freddy > Mrazek

I'd love to see Mrazek hold up to that workload too.

There's also a good chance Freddy still outplays Mrazek.

There's a good chance that the early season heater will prop his season SV% up and be better than Mraz's sure. I'll take mediocre Mraz over 1 month of .950 and 4 months of .890 though, whatever the number at the end of the year is.

Coming from you, this is blasphemy. April & James would be very disappointed.

As for Mrazek, the .923 SV% he put up in 12 whole games last year is nice and pretty.

But the .905 SV% he averaged over the previous four seasons does not inspire my confidence.
