When Auston Matthews draws 0 penalties and Michael Bunting draws 7000 you are doing it wrong.

Love Bunting, but that guy dives and instigates. He's not who the rules are meant to protect.

To draw penalties in the NHL you need to flop and lose the puck.
 
That's another issue. When you have Bunting on your team and when your team takes like no penalties themselves, there's no one left on your team to draw penalties. The refs give them an allotment of penalties that they can draw each game and Bunting eats that shit up.
 
"a few days" is a very specific (and short) timeline for a concussion and oddly coincides with the expiration with his suspension. How fortunate!

not sure I accept Micah's context here. his league average is low because it includes a fuckload of players unlikely to draw ever draw penalties, no?
 
He clarified that he didnt like how Keefe made it about Matthews in general and that is why he is making his argument. This is not a Matthews problem but a problem in general

His argument loses merit when everyone else in Matthews tier seem to be drawing calls while he has zero. That makes it seem like maybe it is a Matthews problem
 
Yeah his point is that some players are good at drawing penalties, and others aren't. And that there isn't necessarily a correlation between total points and total drawn penalties across the league.. And that Matthews in general has not been particularly good at drawing penalties so the numbers this year aren't an outlier.

I see 5000 problems with this statement so I'm not defending it or the league and how they officiate.. But this is where he was going with it.

What Micah doesn't understand about the Keefe comment was this:



This was the point Keefe was trying to make. He wasn't "making it only about Matthews". Very poor critical thinking by Micah there if he truly felt that Keefe was implying an anti Matthews conspiracy.

Yeah that'll be Bunting soon, though they may let him go for longer since he's white. They're both serial divers and once the secret was out on Kadri that was the end of that. I suspect the same will hold true for Bunting. You can keep a secret longer playing for Arizona, that's for sure.
 
I think I just have a big problem with the implication that 0 penalties through 23 games is completely normal and "nothing to see here folks" for a star forward, because it pretty clearly isn't?

As Mindz pointed out, Matthews games is centered around where most penalties occur. Down low along the boards or in front of the net.

The guy is a possession hound 5v5 so how he is not drawing calls in these areas is beyond me.

And Matthews has that "track record" because the Leafs don't take a lot of penalties. No other reason really. Which makes a lot of sense of course.
