Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

Would taxi squads really make much of a difference, though?

From a cap, roster and waivers standpoint, there's no practical difference between a player being on your taxi squad and a player being on your AHL roster aside from the taxi squad player travelling and practicing with the NHL team.

And if you end up with a bunch of players on the NHL roster testing positive, maybe you're better off not having any of the guys you'll be relying on to plug those roster holes hanging around your NHL roster all the time.

I think this is probably true.

It's also a tough sell when this league and about 80% of the teams are based out of the United States and the US has been carrying on like the pandemic is over for a good long while now, and they're not going to reverse course on that under any circumstance.

I was surprised to both the Panthers and Avs do an immediate shutdown for 2 weeks. Especially the Florida team.

I think it’s more the temporary cap relief

Unlimited recalls? Though then they can’t get there on time. I dunno but having teams keep playing with way fewer skaters than their opponent seems pretty shit.

Yeah, in an ideal world, they'd allow unlimited recalls, or allow teams to temporarily carry additional players that don't count against the cap.

But with the NHL under a rigid system with a hard salary cap and strict division of revenues/expenses between the players, that's just probably not going to happen. The owners won't want to take the hit for paying extra NHL salaries that don't get added as a minus into the "hockey related revenues" calculation, and then the players won't want those extra salaries coming out of their end either.

We play street hockey for two straight hours sometimes with no subs. These guys are such pussies. 5 on 5, one sub each. Let’s go.

It's a legit way to create a prime scoring chance from nothing. Same with the Michigan goal, and same with when guys started going between the legs so they could change the angle and still get a forehand shot off. In addition to being awesome to watch, these moves give the best opportunity to score in certain situations. Scoring goals is pretty essential to winning hockey games. WTF is wrong with Torts.

It's awesome.

I do worry a little about that swing though. Defender leaning in or fallen on the ice, with the swing at just the right angle , could be a bit dangerous.
