New Canadian Politics Thread

At first glance I struggle with any methodology that has us in worse shape than the UK with the trade headwinds they have.

Look at the best performing countries on that list.

That’s to be expected. Their GDP per capita is still well behind the old industrial guard, so new investment will close the technological gap and growth rates will exceed ours. Eventually they will basically converge on GDP per capita and to our long term growth rates.

Also, the per capita growth rates in a few of those countries is partly boosted because their population is falling or flat.

And look more closely at the neocon thinktank known as the BCBC. No better than the Fraser Institute and just as biased.

lecoqsportif already gave an explanation of why those countries are expected to be the best performing. The concern is not that Canada is underperforming Turkey and Estonia. The concern is that it's expected to underperform in comparison to all of the other advanced economies, like the title of the article says. I.e. Japan, Australia, Sweden etc. etc.

And it's not a BCBC study. They're just reporting an OECD study. So maybe BCBC's write up is slanted a bit toward knocking Ottawa, I don't know. But the OECD report says what it says. I kind of doubt the OECD, an intergovernmental economic organization with 38 member countries including Canada, created this with the intent of making Justin Trudeau look bad.

I tried signing up for a booster and after 1.5hrs in the queue got stuck in an endless cycle of entering my health card info to being asked for my postal code to selecting the nearest clinic to being asked for my health card info. Not great.

Which browser did you use? Some are better than others for these things.

York region's site opens up a new day at midnight every night. You have to click around from vaccination site to another but if you do it precisely at midnight you are bound to find a spot.

This is good to know but holy shit midnight??????? I think it's still only open to 50+ so I'll wait.

Ok enough with the handouts. There are a record # of jobs available. we actually needed the handouts more when there were so little jobs available in the past.

The reasons that jobs are going unfilled is that people are refusing to go back to working for slave wages at jobs which do not provide any semblance of a work-life balance.

Big business has been downsizing and laying off people even in good economic times just to goose their profit margins for years and now we're supposed to feel sorry for them that people are telling them to take their low paying jobs and shove them?
