Around the League 2019-2024 Edition

The only upgrade on the blueline that should even be considered is the Holl spot. I'm hardly the dudes biggest fan, but he's at the minimum a competent #4 who can survive on a matchup pair with the right guy beside him.

So really, the only upgrade that makes sense is a right handed Muzzin replacing Holl. Good fucking luck.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot* - Tavares - Nylander
Spezza* - Hertl - Kase
Mikheyev* - Kampf - Engvall
Robertson*

* = interchangeable

I’m on-board with adding another skilled forward, but out of an abundance of caution after last year, I’m going to have to oppose any specific player you’d like to add.

So, that’ll have to be a “no” to Hertl.
Hertl has long been my loverboy and I am going to accuse zeke of jumping on the bandwagon

and I would add to that a capable #7-8 who can survive on the bottom pair.

Dermott is a pretty nice luxury as your #7 but would be nice to have one more reliable body back there.

Hertl would be our version of the T1000 Mike Fisher eh.

Don't reckon there are any better 3Cs in the league than him... yummy

Hertl won't be cheap and I hate going balls deep for rentals. But really yeah, there's no better fit out there. Not even close. He's everything they could use more of. Center, responsible defensively, and has offensive pop and can jump into the top 6 at any moment (which will likely happen throughout when the JT line just ain't cutting it). Addresses everything I kinda wanted.

but how expensive is even a top rental really? they only ever get so much.

has any recent rental even garned the equivalent of say two firsts?

seems like the standard package is 1st + decent prospect + something else (draft pick/prospect/filler)

Yeah two 1sts is pretty common. Nolan Foote and a 1st for Coleman was a thing, who wasn't exactly on Hertl's level. That's the only trade I remember at the top of my head and I'm too lazy to do any research. But that's two late 1sts. Sorta like trading Amirov and a 1st, for example.

coleman wasn't a rental though.

Yeah the most expensive I could find on quick search was back in 2008. The Hossa deal was essentially 2 1sts + Erik Christensen and Armstrong.
