2021-22 Season Hurricanes Misc. Thread

Those Marketplace stores have expanded beverage options if you are so inclined. You can grab a Diet Lipton Green Tea for example (or a Pepsi Max which is my preferred diet soda). Much more variety in bottled drinks than the standard stand. If you get in the door near opening the upstairs Market store is almost always dead early on.

Canes recall Alex Lyon on an emergency basis and place TDA on IR. Walt Ruff says we’ll get an update after the morning skate tomorrow.

Andy Strickland, who is the Abby Labar of the St. Louis Blues among other things, says it sounds like 8 years with a AAV of $4.25-4.5 million for Kotkaniemi.

I had heard we were working on an 8 year deal so the length nor the money really surprises me and if it doesn't work out it'll not be hard to move it..

I’ve never been a fan of the max length deals from a team perspective but for a player the security must be awesome as long as the player doesn’t become too complacent and comfortable. You can look at the $4.5m price tag and say that could be peanuts as these salaries continue to escalate over time. Canes seem to love him as a long term fixture up the middle as a 2C so hopefully he can continue to improve his game. At least that first rounder in the trade was not wasted for a one year and done!

Latest rumor for KK is 8 years/$38.5 million. But they can’t sign the deal until March 21.

I don't have a problem with 8 years deals if the guy is young and you're sold on his upside. Kotkaniemi at a $4.5 to $4.8 million Cap hit? Fine. At worst he's your 3rd line center as soon as next season, and more than likely is a 2C soon enough.

I have a BIG problem with those 8 year deals that expire when the player is well past their prime years. Those are, IMO, dumb business 95% of the time.

Disagree. You’re off by almost 5%.

Pierre LeBrun says the Canes have inquired about Ducks dman Josh Manson. He’ll be a UFA after the season and carries a $4.1 million cap hit, so any trade will either need to involve a 3rd team or lotsof salary moving the other way. He has a 12 team no trade list.

Manson makes sense on a lot of levels. You'd be looking at upgrading Bear on the right side of a 3rd pairing once DeAngelo is back. Manson is stronger on the puck, better in board battles and obviously more experienced than Bear. He's nothing special, but Manson does everything competently ... much like Cole. If Anaheim retains half the salary, you could figure out how to get this done. And Anaheim's prospect pool is talented, but shallow. So they're the kind of partner to whom Carolina's prospect depth has real value.

With 2 games in less than 48 hours and 3 days between games, the Canes are taking today off and there will be no media availability.

That’s also their last longish break of the season. There are only 2 other instances of more than 1 day between games, April 3-4 between a home game against the Wild and a game in Buffalo and April 19-20, after playing in Arizona. But moving the Pens game scheduled for April 29 to February gives them an extra day off before the Playoffs begin on Monday, May 2.

Jalen Chatfield was re-assigned to Chicago. Brendan Smith has been practicing the last few days, so it must mean he’s ready. But Chatfield > Smith, IMO.
