I don't want to be a downer here, but I get a bad feeling when college kids are tough to sign. The Leafs are known to not include any rookie bonuses in their entry-level contracts, they also aren't necessarily a place where rookies are going to get time on special teams etc.. Some college kids seem to be steered to signing with a team that will give them optimal ice-time to develop and earn a larger second contract.

We’re way too early for that concern yet, IMO. He’s only a freshman.

We just drafted him five minutes ago. He’s not tough to sign. He has an interesting opportunity where he is and a compelling one he could switch to. It might be a tougher choice than we think.

College prospects aren’t really different than any other prospects. Anyone who’s drafted has the option of refusing to sign any NHL contract for four years after being drafted and then becoming a UFA.

The overwhelming majority don’t choose that option, though, and I doubt Knies will either even if he doesn’t sign this season.

I think I'm good with Marner not throwing his body around in the final 10 regular season games after they've already clinched.

If I were a Leaf fan, I'd be ok with him never throwing his body around.

Sure have a lot to prove this year, especially if it's Boston.

btw not sure if i've seen it here yet but they're opening Maple Leaf Square/Jurassic Park again this year.
